No Job Description Basic Function: Performs a diverse range of professional tasks in support of the Student Financial Services Department; serves as the main resource to resolve issues related to student financial aid technical systems and business processes; analyzes business manual operations, coordinates automated solutions, and evaluates outcomes; and troubleshoots application related issues. Supervision received and exercised: Receives general supervision from assigned area supervisor. May provide lead direction to temporary staff and/or student workers. Class characteristics: This classification is responsible for providing support to end users on technology issues with significant impact on the Student Financial Services Department, coordinating and deploying technology solutions to end users. Work is varied and complex, requiring discretion and independent judgment. Assignments have general guidelines; incumbents establish objectives, timelines, and methods. Work is typically reviewed on completion for soundness and policy compliance. Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and three (3) years of professional experience supporting financial aid systems and applications; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Knowledge: Operational characteristics and use of assigned applications. Diagnostic tools, methods, and techniques for troubleshooting and resolving application issues. Tools used in development and deployment of supported applications and systems. Performance and reliability standards for applications. Methods and techniques of analyzing business processes for technology solutions. A diverse range of operating platforms used in large technology systems. Basic principles of database design. Methods and techniques of developing ad-hoc reports. Methods and techniques of installing and testing software. Application standards and documentation practices. Research methods and techniques. Developing and writing technical documentation. Pertinent federal, state, and local financial aid codes, laws, and regulations. Ability: Provide professional support to Student Financial Services department-specific applications and technology processes. Troubleshoot and diagnose application issues or forward to other staff for resolution. Clearly communicate complex technology issues to nontechnical parties, orally or in writing. Prepare and generate custom reports. Work with a variety of end users to support their application needs. Independently organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments. Effectively use computer systems, software applications, and business equipment to perform a variety of tasks. Communicate effectively in the course of performing work tasks. Establish, maintain, and foster effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of diverse backgrounds of students, staff, and the community. Provide efficient, high-level customer service to the public, vendors, contractors, and District personnel. Licenses/Certifications: None. Physical Demands & Environment Physical Demands: Mobility to work in an office setting with standard equipment; ability to read printed materials and computer screens; hearing and speech to communicate; occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 25 pounds; periodic standing and walking between work areas. Environment: Office environment with moderate noise; possible interaction with staff and the public in enforcing policies. Duties and Responsibilities – Examples Perform professional tasks in support of the Student Financial Services Department’s technology programs, including business analysis and system administration. Collect and analyze data; evaluate automation options for processes; assess post-implementation outcomes. Participate in research and analysis of complex problems; draft proposals and reports. Assist with planning and coordination of operational matters to meet departmental goals. Provide frontline support for users of department applications; investigate and resolve software issues; recommend corrective action. Configure, maintain, update, and troubleshoot software programs used by financial aid programs per regulatory requirements. Maintain recordkeeping and meet reporting requirements. Coordinate electronic data exchange with state/federal agencies and third-party software. Perform ad hoc queries and generate reports for trend analysis and program compliance. Schedule jobs with IS, SFS, and external vendors. Maintain knowledge of computer systems and software related to state/federal financial aid programs. Participate in in-service training and relevant professional organizations. Perform other related duties as assigned. Conditions of Employment & Benefits Salary: Salary steps with new employees placed at Step 1; annual step changes after anniversary dates; maximum of the grade.)
