RN - ICU Night Shift Registered Nurse

Deliver professional nursing care to critically ill patients in an intensive care setting during night shifts. This role involves collaborating closely with physicians to provide comprehensive patient care, mentoring new staff and students, and performing nursing duties within the scope defined by licensing boards.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Assess and evaluate patient needs, maintaining detailed care plans aligned with unit competencies and policies.
• Promote patient independence by setting care goals and involving patients and families in discussions about medical conditions, treatments, and self-care.
• Administer medications accurately and timely, managing medication orders and evaluating their effects.
• Educate patients and families on physical, emotional, and psychosocial aspects of care, including disease processes, symptom management, and end-of-life considerations when appropriate.
• Document patient care thoroughly and promptly according to organizational policies.
• Observe and report changes in patients' physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual conditions.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy regulations regarding protected health information.
• Foster effective communication and professional relationships with patients, families, healthcare team members, and external agencies.

Education: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Licenses and Certifications: Current Registered Nurse licensure in a compact state required. BLS/CPR certification required within 30 days of hire or by orientation end. Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIHSS, or AWHONN may be required depending on department policy.

Experience: Previous experience in a similar critical care environment is preferred.

Skills and Abilities: Strong nursing fundamentals, effective communication, computer literacy, multitasking, and prioritization skills are essential.

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform heavy work, occasionally lifting up to 100 lbs and frequently lifting up to 20 lbs. Standing or walking for 51-75% of the shift is expected.
