Position Information Employment Status: Full time Shift: Evening/Night (United States of America) Facility: 2900 Lamb Cir - Christiansburg Requisition Number: R160289 RN - Inpatient Mental Health - CNRVMC - Nights (Open) How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare This position is located at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center (CNRVMC) in Christiansburg, VA. It is full time, working nights, 7pm-7am with every other weekend and rotating holidays. The position is eligible for a $25K sign‑on bonus for experienced RNs and a $15K sign‑on bonus for new graduate RNs. Responsibilities As a registered nurse (RN), you are expected to consistently deliver the best in care and customer service and demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in each encounter with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues. As part of the health care team, RNs assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages. The RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care to achieve optimum outcomes. Age‑specific admission and ongoing assessments are completed, documented, and used to develop a plan of care. RNs collaborate with the health care team, patients, and families to develop, implement, and evaluate an interdisciplinary plan of care, revising the plan in response to changes in patient status. Treatments and medications for patients of all ages are accurately administered and documented via electronic medical records. Patient/family educational needs are identified, incorporated into the plan of care, and appropriately documented. RNs contribute to Carilion Clinic’s performance improvement activities, demonstrate patient advocacy, and provide psychological, social, and cultural support. They apply knowledge of growth and development to care for patients. RNs plan strategies to reduce length of stay, improve resource consumption, and achieve better outcomes. They serve as role models for practice to coworkers, students, and physicians, manage resources, establish priorities, and modify the environment to meet patient needs. RNs complete manager/director projects within specified timeframes, use problem‑solving methods to resolve patient or personnel situations, take an active role in orienting new employees, provide feedback to staff, and participate in unit or system activities to facilitate staff participation in decision‑making. RNs assist with education activities for the unit or department. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing or an approved nursing program eligible to sit for the Virginia RN licensing examination. Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure. AHA BLS‑HCP required; may need to obtain/maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on specific work unit. Computer skills required for electronic medical record (EPIC). Additional Requirements Experience with inpatient mental health settings is preferred.
