Meat Manager

The Meat Manager is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned: Promotes excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer‑focused behavior with associates. Smiles and greets customers, answers questions, and helps resolve concerns promptly and professionally. Focuses on continuous improvement in all areas of the department and implements changes to ensure progress. Takes customer orders over the phone or in person with a pleasant attitude. Determines the customer’s desired size and appearance, creates the finished product in a timely fashion, and cuts and trims product as required. Develops and implements localized merchandising plans, sets up displays for new or seasonal items to drive sales, and maintains communication with other departments and the store manager to devise cross‑merchandising plans that meet financial objectives. Monitors competitor activity concerning merchandising, pricing, quality, and comparison signage. Schedules all meat associates, oversees and participates in training, rewards and recognizes performance, and delegates work assignments to utilize talents and maximize department profits. Participates in associate annual performance reviews and new‑hire interviews, and utilizes the Learning Management System (LMS). Manages inventory levels, reviews orders to meet customer demand, and maintains backroom organization and product storage. Oversees shelf replenishment to ensure product availability, prioritizing weekly specials and high‑velocity items, and uses cutting lists for accuracy and variety. Checks and verifies all department deliveries and invoices, unloads merchandise when necessary, and enforces practices related to receiving, dating, and restocking for proper product rotation. Monitors product quality and freshness, breaks down deliveries, controls expenses by improving operations and reducing losses from damage, spoilage, and shrinkage, and ensures associates follow company recipes for prepared products. Maintains freshness by removing and recording out‑of‑code products, completing required product logs, and keeping cases well stocked and appealing. Handles customer requests for weighing, wrapping, and pricing, and maintains logs to track freshness and quality. Adheres to all food and personal safety codes when handling product or using kitchen tools, promotes 5S procedures for backroom and receiving area organization, and is responsible for general sanitation, cleaning schedules, and OSHA requirements. Properly disposes of trash, empties bone cans, and may assist with baling cardboard if trained. Training is provided. Ensures smooth department and store operations by cooperating with co‑workers and superiors, continuously improving job performance, and utilizing all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE) such as cut‑resistant gloves, safety cutters, and company‑sponsored footwear. May also be called upon to assist in other departments. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises associates within the department. May assume total leadership of the building in the absence of store management. Specific number of associates under supervision depends upon store size and the presence of store management. Qualifications High School diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in a business related or food service‑related field desirable. Minimum (3) years’ experience in management within a retail, restaurant, or supermarket environment. Meat management experience preferred. Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily with or without accommodation. Hourly pay starts at $18.00/hr and can rise to $27.00/hr.
