Position Overview Environmental Science Lab Manager at Stanford University, Doerr School of Sustainability, Stanford, California, United States. The position has been deemed critical by the Dean's Office and is exempt from the hiring pause. It is a one-year fixed‑term role based on Stanford's main campus, with the possibility of renewal depending on programmatic need and budgetary availability. Responsibilities Coordinating wet lab work (purchasing and setting up equipment, designing analytical pipelines, assisting with analyses). Designing and executing field and lab studies focused on climate change and fire. Conducting fieldwork on campaign‑based trips (e.g., Sequoia and Kings Canyon, Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve, Kruger National Park). Analyzing and interpreting research data for modeling and presentation purposes. Overseeing and managing equipment for reliability. Maintaining safety standards and protocols in the lab and in the field. Qualifications Bachelor's degree and at least two years of experience in related scientific fields, or a combination of education and relevant experience. Demonstrated experience applying multidisciplinary scientific principles to experimental design and laboratory coordination. Proficiency in analysis and interpretation of research data, with the ability to identify irregularities and invalid results. Ability to organize data and develop models for integration and display. Basic experience with scientific software applications, systems, or programs relevant to the job. Coordinating and collaborating with scientific or research staff and assisting with technical procedures. Effective verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to provide information to scientific and research staff. Preferred Qualifications Background or degree in Earth System Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related fields. Experience as a lab manager for an environmental science lab involving both field and laboratory work. Certifications and Licenses None Physical Requirements Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk‑based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds. Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts. Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls. Correctable vision to perform duties of the job. Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours. Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in a dusty, dirty, and odorous environment. Working Conditions May work extended or unusual work hours based on research and project requirements. Compensation The expected pay range for this position is $38.55 to $46.68 per hour. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
