Ultrasound Technologist

Responsibilities Understand and adhere to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors. Perform all other related duties as assigned. Prepare and position patients correctly for specific examinations, observing different and special requirements for each protocol including proper documentation on images and required body part questionnaires. Assume responsibilities for designated areas and/or procedures and produce good technical images. Assist physicians during procedures as necessary. Perform equipment quality assurance, calibrations as needed, and order supplies. Work in case of emergency procedures or when situations arise in the department. Provide coverage for on‑call, holidays, overtime and day, evening and overnight shifts to maintain adequate and safe coverage. Maintain cleanliness of all work areas, equipment and accessories. Report all malfunctioning equipment to Bio Med and/or supervisor. Process CDs or print pictures if needed. Perform routine office duties, such as answering phones, checking previous reports/images, documenting information on patients’ requests in Meditech or the hospital’s RIS system and PACS digital X‑ray system. Notify transport when patients are ready to be picked up or returned to floors. Show radiologist all images and calls reports to the attending physician, documenting communication if necessary. May be assigned as an instructor or preceptor. Treat all people/staff in a professional and courteous manner, upholding the hospital’s behavioral standards. Introduce oneself and educate the patient and/or family member regarding the examination that is ordered. Use knowledge and skill to provide care based on age, physical and psychosocial stature of patient populations including neonate/newborn, pediatric/adolescent, adults and geriatric groups. Perform all other related duties as assigned. Alter duties and hours as needed according to the needs of the department or hospital. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent required; completion of a certified ultrasound program or certificate required. 1–3 years of ultrasound experience preferred. High proficiency in: moving about the department to access patients and paperwork; operating a computer and other office productivity machinery; communicating with patients about billing or financial obligations; observing and inspecting employees and patients in the department; moving and positioning patients for exams. Maintain composure under stress. Teamwork & adaptability; acts as a professional role model. Assessment skills: excellent communication skills (both verbal and written); attention to detail; planning & organizing; sound problem‑solving, judgment and decision‑making skills; stress tolerance. May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Hazardous chemicals are listed in the hospital’s SDS database. ARDMS certification required upon hire.
