The unit has a total of 27 beds. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:4-5 during day/evening shifts and 1:6 during night shifts. Higher ratios may occur in short staffing situations. Common patient diagnoses include oncology, hematology, gastrointestinal bleed, pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, sepsis, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, and failure to thrive. Experience or knowledge in oncology or chemotherapy is not required. Candidates should be comfortable managing and titrating various drips, including insulin, heparin, cardizem, nitroglycerin, amiodarone, and octreotide, as well as handling blood transfusions. Centralized telemetry technicians monitor cardiac rhythms, and nurses are not required to interpret strips but should be telemetry aware. Charge nurses and house supervisors are present on all shifts, and charge nurses take on modified patient assignments. Travelers may be asked to serve as charge nurses if they are comfortable. There are nursing aides available with varying ratios based on the shift. Respiratory therapy services are provided 24/7 across multiple units. Schedules are prepared by a designated scheduler, and while requests for specific shifts can be considered, block scheduling cannot be guaranteed. Every other weekend and holiday availability is required. Floating may occur within medical-surgical units for observer needs or assisting with tasks. The dress code allows for any color scrubs without logos from other health systems. All clinicians must clock in and out while on the facility premises.
