Medical Technician - Phlebotomy

Job Title*THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesMajor duties and responsibilities include:Performs a range of diagnostic laboratory support duties such as collection and labeling of specimens for the laboratory.Accessions specimens into the computer system, using both automated and manual methods.Performs routine repetitive diagnostic procedures such as venipuncture for collection of blood specimens and collections/acceptance of other body fluids such as urine or sputum.Adheres to safety, infection control, and standard precautions at all times while drawing blood.Collects employee drug screens as a Drug Free Workplace Chain of Custody collector.Transports specimens from the collection site to the testing Laboratory.Answers questions relative to patient specimens.Instructs and assists patients.Processes samples in both the Clinical Testing Unit and Microbiology for testing.Receives and processes specimens from the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC).Monitors supply inventory and rotates stock to minimize outdating.Greets patients and visitors in the Outpatient Phlebotomy Department of the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service.Performs other duties as assigned.DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm or 3:00pm-11:30pm - Rotating weekends and holidays Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not approved
