Description Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital Department : Security Position islocated : {Pittsfield, ME Work Type : PRN Hours Per Week : As Needed Summary Receiving general direction from the Security Director, Supervisor or designee, enforces Hospital regulations, provides a safe and secure environment for Hospital patients, visitors and employees by enforcing Hospital security regulations and by continuously watching for and timely reporting potential safety hazards and unusual occurrences through patrol of assigned areas. Investigates complaints or potential criminal conduct; assists in restraining patients as necessary; provides protective services. Possesses and exhibits extraordinarily strong customer service skills. Responsibilities Maintain the security of the hospital, out buildings, outside properties and assets. Perform inside and outside patrols. Patrol assigned areas, giving particular attention to those areas where security problems have occurred. Respond to trouble, security, emergency calls and demonstrate ability to respond to an inside‑outside plan as outlined in the Emergency Preparedness Plan. Identify unsafe conditions and improperly secured areas/property to help prevent theft, injuries or damages to Hospital property, patients, visitors and employees. Performs standby with patients and/or restraint/removal of unruly/combative patients and public. Participate in assistance with workplace and domestic violence victims; respond to medical emergencies; when authorized assist in restraint of patients; involved in protection of dignitaries; control pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Respond immediately to code and stat requests on campus and between campuses. Complete and maintain security logs and forms; ensure incident and shift reports are completed in a timely manner; prepare prisoner/patient checklist and lock removal forms; prepare ID card request. Provide coverage and relief consistent with a 24‑hour coverage requirement: perform valet service for patients, perform patient maneuvers, transport, and mortuary response; dispatch utilizing integrated security systems, radio dispatch personnel and maintain documentation. Complete computer data entries: enter image ID applications, complete incident reports and security notices, research ID badge information, use access control and database software, communications equipment, first aid equipment, enter RL and Security Specific Software reports. Conduct investigations: investigate thefts, shortages and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct; notify law enforcement; detain suspicious individuals as appropriate; when authorized make arrests; participate in court proceedings; prepare and submit written reports; keep supervisor informed. Perform additional duties as required or assigned: cross‑train in other locations; ensure all required training is up‑to‑date and maintain training records; maintain hospital issued uniforms and equipment; maintain accountability for valuables/property and evidence; may act as transporter for patients when needed. Other Information (Qualifications) A High School Diploma or GED is required. A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, a related discipline, or MCJA Law Enforcement certification preferred. 3–5 years of experience preferred in hospital, security/police, emergency medical or customer services. Must have awareness of law enforcement rules. Demonstrates understanding of community policing, risk analysis and crime prevention concepts and practices. Valid State of Maine Driver’s license with a clean driving record in accordance with the Northern Light Health driving policy. IAHSS certification required within 180 days after hire. MOAB training required within 90 days after hire. Communication Good interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, associates and the public. Manage a high volume of activity. Strong writing skills to provide and maintain documentation. Judgment and initiative to make rapid decisions independently with minimal guidance. Technology Basic computer skills and ability to monitor security equipment and telecommunication switchboard. Ability to troubleshoot systems.
