Job Opportunity – Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse – Virginia

Start Date: October 12, 2026

Location: Central Virginia

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: 13-week assignment, Night shift, 36 hours per week, every other weekend, every other holiday. Patient ratio 1:2. Float requirements to Mother/Baby and NICU (feeders/growers) as needed.

Highlights:

• Busy unit averaging 2,000 deliveries annually with diverse low-risk and high-risk patient populations
• Epic charting system experience required
• Cross-training opportunity to Mother/Baby and NICU feeders/growers
• Comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
• 8 private labor rooms, 4 private triage beds, and 2 OB operating rooms
• Dedicated orientation: 36 hours with one 12-hour clinical shift

Requirements:

• Valid Virginia RN license (pending licenses accepted, must be in hand by Wednesday before start date)
• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience
• Required Certifications: BLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate, Fetal Monitoring
• ACLS certification required
• Epic charting system experience required
• Flu vaccination required (no exemptions)
• Nursys verification required with submission
• BSN preferred

Clinical Skills Required:

• Circulating for Cesarean sections (required)
• Labor and delivery management for both low-risk and high-risk populations
• Triage of obstetrical patients
• Neonatal resuscitation and newborn assessment
• Management of postpartum hemorrhage, magnesium sulfate therapy, and preeclampsia/eclampsia
• Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• C-section recovery and OB PACU care
• IV starts and maintenance, venous blood draws
• Care of high-risk conditions including gestational diabetes, preterm labor, and maternal comorbidities
• Basic NICU care for stable feeder/grower infants

Patient Population:

You will care for both low-risk and high-risk obstetrical patients, including those managed by certified nurse midwives and maternal-fetal medicine specialists. Conditions include gestational and chronic diabetes, preeclampsia/eclampsia, preterm labor, obesity, stillbirth, fetal anomalies, and various maternal comorbidities.

Additional Information:

• Pre-approved time off: Maximum 40 hours per 13-week contract (must be disclosed at submission)
• Floating within scope of practice required
• Weekend shifts: 6-7 per contract
• Specialty-specific modules completed during orientation (up to 16 non-billable hours)
