Job Opportunity With City Of Foley

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the removal of residential solid waste and recycling from Municipal Streets. Works as part of a crew assigned to a collection vehicle under the direction of a residential Sanitation Driver Operator on a scheduled route to pick up curbside garbage, trash and recyclables. Operates vehicles that do not require a CDL license for the pick-up of bulk item trash and assists in yard debris and limb removal. Assembles, repairs and delivers garbage cans and recycle bins. Performs other assigned duties which may include disassembling damaged cans, performing maintenance on vehicles, and responding to work orders from customers. Reports to the Sanitation Superintendent.

Essential functions include picking up residential garbage and recycling materials, picking up residential bulk items, assisting residential customers with special needs with retrieval of residential waste, working with other departments in the City for various cleanup activities, monitoring debris for hazardous waste, assembling trash cans, assisting construction crews and other crews as needed, assisting with set up for parades and special events, performing preventative maintenance on vehicles, preparing and generating information such as garbage can log, mosquito spraying log and equipment maintenance log, operating a variety of machinery and/or equipment to include mosquito truck, truck pulling flatbed, hopper, fork lift and a Gator, utilizing a variety of tool and/or sets of tools such as power drills, grease gun, pressure washer, weed eaters, edger, trimmers, lawn mowers and blowers, and performing other duties as assigned.

Education and experience: High School Diploma or its equivalent and six (6) months of experience in a job related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Physical demands: The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
