Registered Nurse - PRN

Rogers Behavioral Health - Nashville

Schedule: PRN – as needed coverage when clinic is open (M‑F). No set hours or consistent days. Job Duties & Responsibilities Complete initial assessments and document as required. Collect, record, and analyze pertinent data for admission within prescribed timeframe, including patient strengths and limitations, cultural, spiritual, and ethnic factors, discharge needs, medical/physical status, medication history, and age‑specific data. Involve patient’s support systems (family, friends) in assessment and documentation and observe interactions pertinent to the patient’s treatment. Act as an advocate for patients by explaining rights, obtaining appropriate signatures, protecting privacy, assisting with patient orientation, and enforcing unit safety policies such as gown/contraband search. Initiate and update treatment plans, participate in planning and modifying the patient’s plan of care, evaluate data from other team members, attend care conferences, develop and interpret plans with patients/families, write clear treatment goals, and review progress. Continuously identify and document information from nursing interviews, observations, assessments and diagnostics, and confer with other health professionals. Implement patient care, demonstrating correct medication administration and documentation, monitoring for adverse reactions and interactions, providing patient education, and maintaining up‑to‑date pharmacologic knowledge. Identify potential patient care problems, abrupt changes, or impending instability and exercise leadership to intervene appropriately, using de‑escalation techniques, reassessing safety levels, identifying withdrawal syndromes, neurologic and cardiac symptoms. Identify health education needs of patients/families before discharge, implement age‑appropriate teaching, document interventions, organize care activities, and adhere to policies, QMP designation, and regulatory requirements such as EMTALA. Assist in developing and implementing unit standards of care, including unit safety/hazardous items, Kardex, and standard care plans. Identify problems with unit systems, suggest solutions, lead projects, and participate in committees. Carry out leadership functions in patient care, staff operations, and department organization, contributing to nursing and hospital functions through committees, meetings, and by taking initiative in evaluating and upgrading unit standards. Assume charge nurse role: coordinate unit activities, manage crisis situations, facilitate admissions, communicate unit status, supervise and delegate tasks to LPN/psychiatric technicians, assist with billing, and maintain a primary caseload. Participate in projects, tasks, and continuing education opportunities to improve professional skills and unit/department systems, develop professional growth goals, and seek out projects based on unit needs. Promote department goals and hospital mission through communication, achievement of measurable goals, maintaining policies, and educating new staff and interns. Demonstrate understanding of Joint Commission and other regulatory agency compliance regulations, participate in related services, and educate other disciplines. Participate in hospital committees, performance improvement teams, and projects, demonstrating punctuality, effective communication, and a solution‑focused approach. Conduct self in a professional manner, demonstrating organizational skills, positive communication, compliance with policies, courteous behavior, and a professional image. Education & Training Requirements Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred. Registered nurse licensed by the State Board of Nursing in the state of employment, with license in good standing. American Health Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification required within 30 days of hire, with bi‑annual recertification. Formal training in management of the aggressive patient required within 60 days of hire, with annual recertification. Previous psychiatric experience with children, adolescents, and adults preferred. Qualified medical professional (QMP) designation may be required at the hospital’s discretion; competence is evaluated annually. Employees in the Child/Adolescent Day Treatment programs licensed under HFS 40 must have either training in psychiatric nursing or one year of experience working with these children.
