We're looking for an HR Manager to run day-to-day HR for a growing ag tech company in Durham. This is a hands-on generalist role covering recruiting , payroll , benefits , HR systems, employee relations, training , equity administration, recognition , policy, and compliance.


You'll report to the Head of HR and help build practical, people-focused processes that support employees, managers, and the business as we grow .


This is a full time position with a hybrid work schedule. No sponsorship or corp to corp arrangements are available.


What You'll Do

• Keep core HR operations running smoothly, including onboarding, offboarding, HRIS data, employee records, reporting, and compliance.
• Partner with Finance on payroll, benefits, HR budgeting, forecasting, and workforce metrics.
• Support managers and employees through employee relations, performance management, coaching, and corrective action.
• Lead full-cycle recruiting, from sourcing and screening to interviews, offers, ATS management, and pre-employment steps.
• Work with hiring managers to define roles, create effective interview plans, and move strong candidates through the process quickly.
• Manage payroll and benefits with our PEO, lead open enrollment, and serve as a trusted resource for employee questions.
• Oversee leave programs, disability and life insurance claims, and related employee communications.
• Administer equity grants and maintain accurate tracking and compliance records in platforms such as Carta.
• Own the Learning Management System, support employee and manager training, and keep learning resources useful and current.
• Lead recognition and engagement efforts that help employees feel connected and valued.

What You Bring

• 7+ years of progressive HR generalist experience across recruiting, payroll, benefits, HR operations, and employee relations.
• Experience with ATS and HRIS tools, plus payroll and benefits administration through a PEO such as UKG.
• Strong judgment, discretion, and communication skills, especially with confidential or sensitive matters.
• A hands-on, high-ownership style with the ability to move quickly and improve processes as the business grows.

Nice to Have

• PHR or SHRM-CP certification.
• Experience with Carta, Learning Management Systems, or high-growth biotech, agtech , or life sciences companies.
