Phlebotomist

Responsibilities In compliance with SOPs, performs all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set‑up, monitoring and disconnect. In compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines, performs venipuncture on donors to begin pheresis. Evaluates vein performance, makes necessary corrections to expedite donation, ensure product quality and donor safety. Educates new donors about therapeutic products, screening process, appointment system, fees, center policies, nutrition and additional information. Maintains alertness to donor reactions and assists or notifies appropriate staff. Uses PDA to record incidents during pheresis, such as machine alerts, volume variances, and adverse events. Performs calibrations and verifies maintenance as outlined in the SOPs; resolves complex equipment alarms and donor issues. Troubleshoots equipment failures; creates incident documentation and removes/replaces equipment as needed. Monitors donor flow on the donor floor to assure continuous turnover; alerts Group Leader or Supervisor of flow issues. Collects arm or whole blood samples from donors for testing. Ensures accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system per SOPs. Understands policies associated with hyper‑immune programs if applicable. Maintains a clean, efficient work environment; ensures sufficient supplies and follows HSE and OSHA policies. Maintains confidentiality of personnel, donor and center information. May be cross‑trained in other areas as needed. Bilingual skills may be required at the organization’s discretion. Performs other job‑related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience: Internal CSL employees must have completed CSL Plasma DST training. External candidates must have a minimum of 6 months as a phlebotomist (preferably one year). Minimum twelve (12) months in a medical or health‑care environment. Preferred: Combination of education and experience as stated above. Working Conditions Complete routine forms or oral communications. Understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions. See and speak with customers; observe equipment operation. Stand and walk up to 100% of time. Reach, bend, kneel; high manual dexterity. Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions. Frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood‑borne pathogens. Wear personal protective equipment as required. Work overtime and extended hours to support center needs. Compensation The expected base pay for this position at hiring is $21.34 - $23.30 per year.
