Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (Orthopedic Focus)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Days | 3x12-Hour Shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM) | Every other weekend required | Holidays required as scheduled

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical / Telemetry unit with an orthopedic surgical focus, maintaining a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Care for adult and geriatric patients post-operatively following complex procedures including total joints, spinal fusions, foot and ankle, colorectal, hepatobiliary, urology, and GYN surgeries
• Operate and monitor specialized equipment including IV therapy, PCA, PCEA, capnography, and wound VAC systems
• Perform telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation with proficiency in rhythm recognition basics
• Utilize unit communication tools including bedside shift report, white boards, and secure messaging platforms
• Float within Medical Surgical / Telemetry specialty and to lower acuity areas as needed

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience with strong orthopedic and post-operative surgical background (required – no exceptions)
• Active Maryland RN license or active Compact RN license at time of submission
• Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association only
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association only
• NIH Stroke Scale certification
• Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification – online version must be from an approved vendor

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with general surgery in addition to orthopedic post-operative care
• Familiarity with HCAHPS practices and bedside shift report protocols
• Prior travel nursing experience welcomed; first-time travelers will be considered
