Job Title: Registered Nurse - Float Pool Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical/Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of MedSurg experience License: Registered Nurse license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: Chest tube management Stable trach management IV skills Knowledge of CPAP/BiPAP/Airvo Foley insertion and care Feeding tube management Cardiac rhythm interpretation Experience with titrating drips (Cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, argatroban) EPIC experience Description: This is a Float Pool position requiring the ability to float to various units throughout the facility. Travelers may be assigned to any area within the organization where MedSurg patients are located, including ER Holding/Boarding. The position primarily involves caring for patients in Medical Surgical Oncology, where travelers will care for oncology patients without administering chemotherapy. Patients may include adults and occasionally minors, though no pediatric experience is required. Surgical cases include gallbladder, appendectomies, colectomies, ostomies, and TURPs. General medical cases include conditions such as cellulitis, GI bleeds, CHF, and COPD. Ortho/Neuro observation responsibilities include patients with chest pain, dizziness, and syncope, as well as orthopedic and neurological patients post-surgery. Cardiac care includes managing post-procedure patients and general cardiac conditions. Patient ratios are typically 1:4-6 during the day and 1:6 during the night. Support on the unit includes a Health Unit Coordinator on days, Nurse Assistants for basic patient care, and various specialists available during weekdays. Charting is done using an EMR system, requiring familiarity with the platform. There is a strong emphasis on teamwork within this supportive environment. Holiday work is expected at a rate of approximately 50% during the contract duration.
