Position Summary:

The Phase 2 Yard Jockey is responsible for safely moving, positioning, and staging trucks, trailers, and other assigned equipment within the Phase 2 facility and yard. The position supports the continuous flow of compost operations by ensuring equipment is placed in the correct loading, unloading, washing, and staging areas when needed. This role works closely with Phase 2 Drivers and production employees to keep equipment organized, available, and ready for operation.

Role and Responsibilities: 

The following functions are considered essential to the position. This list is intended to describe the primary responsibilities of the role and is not necessarily exhaustive.

•    Move and position trucks and trailers throughout the Phase 2 yard and production areas.

•    Back trailers into designated loading, unloading, conveyor, washing, and staging locations.

•    Stage loaded and empty trailers based on daily production needs.

•    Move equipment to and from the conveyor/loading area

•    Connect and disconnect trailers and verify that equipment is properly secured before movement.

•    Perform inspections of yard equipment and report visible damage, defects, or safety concerns.

•    Fuel assigned yard tractors and equipment as needed.

•    Assist with positioning trucks or trailers for compost loading and unloading operations.

•    Move equipment to designated wash areas and assist with cleaning or washing trucks/trailers.

•    Maintain the yard in an organized manner and ensure equipment is parked in designated locations.

•    Communicate with Phase 2 supervisors, drivers, and production employees regarding equipment availability and staging needs.

•    Maintains required yard movement, inspection, or equipment logs.

•    Follow all facility rules, backing procedures, PPE requirements, and company safety procedures 

•    Assist Phase 2 operations with other equipment movement or general duties as needed.

•    Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

•    High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience

•    Previous experience operating a yard jockey, tractor-trailer, or similar heavy equipment preferred. 

•    Experience backing, spotting, connecting, and disconnecting trailers. 

•    Experience in a production, agricultural, compost, or industrial environment is a plus.

Required Skills / Knowledge

•    Valid CDL Class C

•    Clean driving record. 

•    Ability to safely maneuver and position trailers in tight yards and production areas. 

•    Knowledge of basic vehicle and equipment inspections. 

•    Ability to complete daily logs and required documentation accurately. 

•    Ability to follow safety procedures, traffic rules, and PPE requirements. 

•    Good communication and coordination skills. 

•    Ability to work independently and adjust to changing operational needs.

Preferred Qualifications 

•    Previous Yard Jockey experience. 

•    Experience in a mushroom farm, compost operation, agricultural facilities, or similar environment. 

•    Familiarity with trailer staging, coupling, and uncoupling procedures. 

•    Experience working around conveyors, loading areas, or production equipment. 

•    Basic mechanical knowledge. 

•    Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. 

•    Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or adjusted schedules as needed.
