Associate Attorney

About the Opportunity Levine, Furman & Rubin, LLC is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to provide legal oversight across the firm’s estate planning practice. The Associate Attorney will ensure that estate planning documents are accurate, legally sound, and consistent with firm standards while serving as a key legal resource for attorneys, paralegals, and client-facing staff. This role owns complex planning matters, establishes and maintains the firm’s drafting standards, and provides final legal oversight when sophisticated or escalated issues arise. The successful candidate will continuously improve drafting quality, workflows, and legal execution while collaborating closely with attorneys, paralegals, and client-facing teams. Key Responsibilities Manage and oversee the timely, accurate, and consistent production of estate planning documents. Review and approve estate planning documents within firm targets of three business days from plan confirmation and two business days from draft completion. Monitor drafting progress, anticipate potential issues, and address substantive legal concerns early to avoid downstream delays. Maintain firm-wide accountability for drafting accuracy, consistency, and quality while allowing matters to move efficiently. Drafting Standards and Firm Compendium Regularly review and update the firm compendium to reflect current law, firm philosophy, and best practices. Draft and refine estate planning provisions, templates, and practice notes to promote consistent, high-quality work product. Improve the firm’s drafting workflows and technology, including WealthCounsel, HotDocs, and related tools, to increase efficiency and reduce errors. Internal Legal Resource and Quality Control Stay current on estate planning and tax law developments that affect the firm’s planning strategies. Review estate plans for legal sufficiency and alignment with firm standards, particularly in complex or sensitive matters. Provide behind-the-scenes legal guidance to attorneys and staff and serve as the firm’s escalation point for technical legal issues. Client-Facing and Estate Administration Support Participate in client meetings, telephone calls, and document-signing appointments when advanced legal explanation or planning guidance is needed. Provide legal guidance and support to the estate administration team. Resolve complex administration issues and help ensure that outcomes align with the client’s intent and the governing documents. Complex Planning Matters Lead advanced estate planning strategies and complex or escalated planning matters. Oversee entity-related documents and transfers to ensure consistency with the overall estate plan. Resolve escalated legal issues and provide final legal review before documents are executed. Qualifications Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Admission to the New Jersey Bar in good standing is required; admission to the New York Bar is a plus. Substantial estate planning experience, including sophisticated trust planning and advanced planning strategies. Strong knowledge of federal and state estate, gift, income, and related tax law affecting estate planning. Exceptional legal research, analytical, drafting, and document-review skills. Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve complex substantive legal issues and exercise sound legal judgment. Experience establishing drafting standards, reviewing attorney work product, and maintaining strong quality-control procedures. Ability to explain sophisticated estate planning concepts clearly to clients, attorneys, and staff. Strong leadership, organization, and project-management skills, including the ability to maintain quality while meeting established timelines. Collaborative leadership style and ability to work effectively with attorneys, paralegals, and client-facing teams. Experience with WealthCounsel, HotDocs, or comparable estate planning and document-automation platforms is preferred.
