The University is undergoing rapid growth toward its strategic goal of becoming a comprehensive, midsize, residential, undergraduate‑graduate, research‑intensive, health professions and science University of excellence. With a new 60,000 sq. ft. building in the works for a four‑year medical degree program and a 13‑acre campus expansion for residence halls, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science is expanding its facilities and academic offerings in the Los Angeles region. Responsibilities Advance the education, research, and clinical missions of the university in collaboration with the Department Chair, staff, and administrative leadership. Facilitate and support the training of students, residents, and fellows, championing improvements in education and fostering student success, academic excellence, engagement, personal growth, and development. Serve as a role model and mentor, teaching students and assisting them to optimize their educational experience and socialization into the disciplinary culture. Contribute to curriculum development, teaching, and research activities across specific disciplines. Provide defined hours for teaching load and student engagement within the department, maintaining office hours for students. Assist in recruiting, hiring, and retaining outstanding, diverse faculty, residents, and fellows in partnership with the Department Chair or hospital administration. Communicate effectively with the Department Chair, faculty, and staff. Apply knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures, maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of current policies, procedures, and regulations. Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development as evidenced by research publications and training sessions. Other Duties Perform other duties as assigned. Education Ph.D., MD, or DO from a regionally accredited institution. Experience Academic credentials appropriate for appointment to the College of Medicine faculty at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor or Professor. Knowledge / Abilities / Skills Proficient skill in using Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Strong interpersonal skills. Commitment to social justice and values‑driven curricula. Ability to collaborate effectively with administration, staff, peers, and full‑time and community‑based faculty. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of and commitment to the unique mission of CDU. Working knowledge of general CDU University and assigned department policy and procedures. Complexity Ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care, managing numerous inquiries and information. Physical Demands Occasional stooping, frequent standing, constant walking, sitting, climbing, reaching, finger movement, clear speaking, conversational hearing, and vision required. Work Environment Occasionally required to work in confined spaces, with reasonable accommodations for disabilities available. Mental Demands Frequent variety of unrelated tasks, constant calculating, interrupted work, interrelated tasks demanding sustained concentration, reasoning, judgment, resourcefulness, analytical ability, and ingenuity. Compensation Full‑time positions: $165,000 – $265,000, based on experience, degree, rank, and role. Part‑time positions: annual compensation based on % effort, varying by schedule and participation.
