Under the direction of the Building Manager, the Custodian Supervisor II in the Facilities Management Division (FMD), State Capitol/Swing Space Building is responsible for the completion of all building custodial services through subordinate supervisors, including ensuring the safety of building occupants, property and employee development in the State Capitol/Swing Space Building/ Capitol Historic Region following FMD guidelines and other applicable published industry standards.


This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment and once per year.


This position may require travel.

Per CCR 249.3, this job control may be used to fill subsequent vacancies.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Experience supervising custodial, janitorial, facilities, or building-services staff is desirable. The candidate should have knowledge of cleaning methods, sanitation standards, equipment operation, and the safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
• The successful candidate should demonstrate strong organizational skills, including the ability to create cleaning schedules (Floor care, stairwell, high dusting etc..), assign work, monitor custodial supplies and equipment, and coordinate routine and emergency services. Effective communication, customer service and interpersonal skills are essential for working with employees, building occupants, vendors, and administrators.
• Experience training, coaching, and supporting staff while promoting consistent service and safe work practices is valuable. The candidate should also be familiar with maintaining inventory records, preparing supply orders, tracking expenses, and managing departmental resources.
• The ability to inspect facilities, identify maintenance or safety concerns, document issues, and follow up on corrective actions.
• Proficiency with basic computer applications, work-order systems, scheduling tools, and record keeping is also desirable. Flexibility to work varied shifts, respond to urgent needs, and perform occasional physical tasks associated with cust odial operations is expected.
