They also function to perform various patient care tasks, and exhibit teamwork characteristics with Physicians and other staff. The Medical Assistant is responsible for completing clinic and administrative tasks.Essential FunctionsAnswers phonesPerforms general nursing care to patients by following established standards and proceduresGreets patients and takes them back to roomsInterviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patient chartsMay be required to draw and collect blood or urine samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysisPrepares examination rooms and maintains daily cleaning listFilling out procedure consentsSchedules patients for diagnostic testing and follows up to ensure completion of testingCommunicates with patient regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by the PhysicianFormulates and documents patient care plans, charts, tests, and examination results in the medical recordPrepares patients for diagnostic procedures, explains process, and positions patients to capture images requested by the PhysicianEscalates non-routine issues to the Office Manager or PhysicianGood attendance is expected of all employees as a normal condition of workPerforms other duties as assigned by the Office Manager or PhysicianQualificationsCompetenciesAbility to perform EKG's, draw blood, and administer injectionsAbility to effectively communicate to staff and patientsExcellent bedside manner and ability to make patients feel at ease. Appears friendly, reassuring, approachable, and caring to patientsDemonstrates sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situationsStrong computer skills using a medical management software and prior experience with EMR's is highly preferredPossess a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalismAbility to thrive in a fast paced environmentDemonstrates initiative, insight, and judgement in decision-making processKnowledge of medical terminology, medical documentation, and proceduresInfection Control Category This job is designated as a Category I job using OSHA definitions. This means there are tasks that involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.
