Qualifications and requirements: The Surgical Technologist is an allied health professional competent in surgical procedures and an integral part of the surgical care team. The Surgical Technologist works under the supervision and delegation of a surgeon to facilitate safe and effective surgical procedures. The Surgical Technologist is an expert in theory and application of aseptic and sterile technique, knowledgeable of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and surgeon preferences to properly prepare the sterile field, supplies, instrumentation, and equipment. During the surgery, the Surgical Technologist provides appropriate instrumentation and assists through a combination of knowledge, participation, anticipation, and critical thinking. The Surgical Technologist works alongside and assists the circulating nurse as well as other members of the surgical team.

Surgical Tech Position Summary

• Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures. Reports to the Director of OB.
• Essential Functions Additional Information
• Patient Populations Served: Neonate, Infant, Early Childhood, Late Childhood, Adolescent, Young Adult, Middle Adult, Older Adult.
• Protected Health Information Accessed: Demographic, Clinical, Insurance, Financial, Complete Medical Record.
• Exposure: Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is present.
• Physical Requirements: Frequent standing, walking, lifting/moving patients, and repetitive hand/arm movements. Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards, including blood and bodily fluids, hazardous medications, and latex.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology through an accredited Surgical Technology program.

Certification(s): National Certification as a Surgical Technologist through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)

• American Heart Association healthcare provider BLS, within one month of hire
• Preferred 1-year surgical technologist acute care experience.
• Verbal, written, and computer skills
