Oncology Ambulatory Pharmacy Supervisor, Greater Boston Metro-West and North Shore Region

The Ambulatory Pharmacy Supervisor is a working supervisory role responsible for supporting the clinical practice and daily operations of ambulatory and satellite practice sites under the Director of Ambulatory & Infusion Pharmacy Services and corresponding manager(s). This position provides direct supervision of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, interns, and students practicing in these locations. The supervisor regulatory oversight, staff development, medication inventory management, and workflow oversight at the relevant BIDMC licensed ambulatory location(s). The supervisor is expected to maintain competency to staff at their primary ambulatory site(s), including sterile products areas, and serve as a clinical and operational escalation contact for staff working at the site(s). This is a working supervisor position scheduled during ambulatory clinic hours (primarily day shift, weekdays). Primary Responsibilities 1. Practices pharmacy and maintains credentials in accordance with laws, rules and regulation of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Department of Public Health, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and Drug Enforcement Administration and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures. 2. Reviews, clarifies, and verifies medication orders with consideration, including but not limited to the following patient specific parameters: diagnosis, weight/body surface area, age, allergies, organ function, laboratory values, medication duplication, drug interactions. 3. Documents and communicates pertinent information and discussion with the healthcare team and pharmacy staff to ensure continuity of care. 4. Provides drug information to physicians, nurses and other health care professionals. 5. Checks and verifies sterile and non-sterile medications. 6. Supervises the activities of students, technicians, and residents within the pharmacist area of practice. 7. Promotes a culture of patient safety by submitting medication related events and near misses. Participates in the investigation of medication errors and supports the implementation of corrective actions as needed. 8. Completes daily pharmacy surveillance tool monitoring, including follow-up and documentation, as well as other daily patient care initiatives and relevant reports. 9. Works collaboratively with all pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy personnel. Upholds a culture of respect and teamwork across the Pharmacy Department. 10. Actively monitors selected quality assurance metrics related to cleanroom operations and other practice measures. 11. Serves on departmental committees to improve process and quality outcomes, including leading or participating in medication use evaluation or cost-savings initiatives. 12. Coordinates the maintenance, service, and troubleshooting of local technologies during working hours, including but not limited to; Automated Dispensing Cabinets, Electronic Temperature Monitoring, and USP and compliant cleanroom facilities. Escalates to pharmacy department leadership appropriately. 13. Supports compliance and readiness with regulatory and accreditation bodies; Joint Commission, CMS, DPH, QOPI, USP , USP , USP . 14. May participate in On-Call rotation on behalf of the department. 15. Regularly participates in department initiatives including but not limited to supporting formulary stewardship (including drug shortage management), presenting new medication requests at Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, creating and maintaining policies and procedures, conducting assessments of workflows, and/or developing of departmental tools and resources. 16. May precept pharmacy student and resident rotations as well as resident-led quality improvement projects. 17. Responsible for dissemination of information and ongoing interdisciplinary education related to a specific practice site or core area of practice. 18. Responsible for performance evaluations; staff training and development; team building; recruitment; vacation/leave approvals; disciplinary matters and other related personnel management duties. 19. Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following in collaboration with the manager and director: hiring, termination, corrective action, and performance reviews. 20. Promotes positive relations and actively contributes to a supportive work environment. Fosters a team environment within the department and effective inter-disciplinary collaboration. Required Qualifications 1. Bachelor's degree in pharmacy required. 2. Massachusetts Pharmacist License required. 3. 3+ years pharmacist practice experience required in a related practice setting. 4. Strong analytical skills, defining work problems, and designing a system of procedures to resolve problems. 5. Demonstrated interpersonal and management skills necessary to educate and supervise staff. Independent thinker with good judgment and constant triaging ability. 6. Ability to handle non-routine tasks. 7. Ability to confront difficult issues and to solve problems. 8. Ability to work accurately to meet deadlines and consistently make sound decisions that fall within satisfactory boundaries. 9. Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases. Preferred Qualifications 1. Doctoral degree in Pharmacy . 2. Advanced degree (MS, MBA, MHA), training (residency or fellowship), or additional certifications. 3. Board certification in a relevant area of practice (i.e. BCPS, BCOP, BCSCP) 4. 1 or more years of related supervisory or leadership experience Pay Range Pay Range: $170,000.00 USD - $190,000.00 USD The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
