Physician Assistant Fellow

The Physician Assistant Fellow is joining DFCI in a one‑year Physician Assistant post‑graduate training program. The Fellow has completed PA school and is a certified Physician Assistant. The Fellow uses clinical and academic skills in evaluating, diagnosing and treating patients with cancer or hematologic disorders. The Fellow joins DFCI for dedicated mentorship in oncology through a program that includes didactic and clinical training outlined by the PA Fellowship Director. Responsibilities The Physician Assistant Fellow manages therapeutic regimens for acute and chronic problems associated with cancer or hematologic disorders, including treatment and/or conditions, in collaboration with a physician and mentors. The Physician Assistant Fellow provides anticipatory guidance, patient and family education, and psychological and emotional support. The Physician Assistant Fellow has prescriptive authority for schedule II‑V controlled substances in Massachusetts. The Physician Assistant Fellow takes advantage of formal and informal learning opportunities to strengthen his or her knowledge base in support of the Institute’s mission, vision, and core values. Minimum Job Qualifications Minimum Education: Master’s Degree and successful completion of an AAPA/NCCPA accredited Physician Assistant Studies program are required. Minimum Experience: No professional experience required. Licensure, Certification, and Registration: Must be NCCPA Certified and licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in Massachusetts. Must maintain current DEA and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Licenses, and complete 100 hours of CME during each two‑year period of employment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required The Physician Assistant Fellow is a member of an interdisciplinary care team that requires effective communication and collaboration with co‑workers at the Institute, as well as institutions and agencies. Critical thinking, an understanding of research principles and practices, and leadership that improve the quality of care and advance nursing/medical care within the work setting and throughout the community.
