Job Title Professional Practice Associate Professor Department Computer Science and Engineering, College of Engineering, Ohio State University Position Overview These are untenured clinical‑track five‑year contract faculty positions. The role involves developing, enhancing, and teaching courses and academic programs across the computer science curriculum, participating in outreach and engagement, and contributing to departmental service activities. Responsibilities Develop, enhance, and deliver courses and academic programs within the computer science curriculum. Engage in outreach and engagement activities to increase the department’s visibility. Participate in departmental committees and serve the department through service activities. Performance Objectives Assistant‑level Appointment Excellence in teaching and adoption of best teaching practices. Leadership in designing course curricula and programs. Leadership in extracurricular student activities and organizations. Leadership in service in education, both within and outside the university. Associate/Full Appointment Strong record in teaching courses and adopting best teaching practices. Strong record in academic program development. Strong record of service and leadership in the field. Strong record of mentorship (students or employees). Education and Experience Requirements Required: Ph.D. in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related computing field, completed by the time of appointment. Evidence of teaching and/or mentoring teams (students or employees) in the computing field. Desired Qualifications Experience developing new courses and degree programs. Experience with online teaching, experiential teaching, informal learning, or outreach. Experience teaching at graduate, undergraduate, or professional levels. Student and peer feedback on teaching effectiveness. Curricular and content development and innovations. Textbook and course material development. Pedagogical innovations or publications about teaching in computing. Development of novel educational programs. Participation in committees and organizations connecting the department to broader initiatives. Contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, curricular development, or outreach. Clear plans to create and oversee engagement with industrial or government partners. Skills Required for Success Assistant Professor Appointment Leadership and Collaboration : Demonstrate leadership and effective collaboration in a professional academic setting. Teaching and Mentoring : Experience or training in teaching and mentoring within a professional context. Communication Skills : Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Additional Information The final offer will be based on qualifications and experience. Salary and start‑up packages will be negotiated by the department chair.
