Senior Payroll Accountant

Our client is seeking a Senior Payroll Accountant to support the accounting function by ensuring the integrity of financial information in accordance with company policies and U.S. GAAP. This role is responsible for domestic and international payroll and benefits accounting, including expenses, accruals, and prepaid accounts, as well as the preparation of financial and regulatory reports. The ideal candidate will partner closely with Human Resources and cross-functional teams to support month-end close and ongoing financial operations, while contributing to process improvements and financial transparency. Key Responsibilities Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to payroll and benefits Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules Perform domestic and international payroll accounting, including expense classification and accrual analysis Maintain bonus schedules, tax receivables/liabilities, and benefits-related balances Partner with internal teams to ensure completeness and accuracy of accruals Analyze expense trends and variances, providing insights to management Manage prepaid expenses and ensure proper amortization and period recognition Collaborate cross-functionally to support business initiatives Identify and implement process improvements and strengthen internal controls Support accounting system implementations or upgrades Prepare and review financial reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness Respond to financial inquiries from management Assist with internal and external audits, including preparation of supporting documentation Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies Contribute to special projects and additional responsibilities as needed Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 5+ years of experience working in accounting preferably in a Big 4 or large company 3+ years preferred specifically in payroll accounting Strong experience with month-end close processes Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) Ability to learn and adapt to new accounting systems Preferred Qualifications CPA preferred Strong focus on quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement Excellent written and verbal communication skills Collaborative mindset with a team-oriented approach Customer-service orientation with the ability to understand and meet stakeholder needs Physical Demands Must possess ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion Training All job specific, safety, and compliance training are assigned based on the job functions associated with this employee.
