Co-op, Cell Models and Molecular Biology

About the Role:

This application is for a 6-month student Co-op role from January - June 2027. Resume review begins in October 2026.

Overview of Role:

The Cell Models & Molecular Biology (CMMB) Co-op will join a multidisciplinary research team focused on developing and characterizing in vitro advanced cellular models to better understand disease biology. This role provides an opportunity to gain hands on experience with human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and iPSC-derived cell types and apply molecular and cellular biology techniques to investigate disease relevant phenotypes in the context of drug discovery. The ideal candidate is curious, detail-oriented, and excited to work at the intersection of biology and automation.

Department/Team:

The co-op will be part of the CMMB group, working alongside scientists to develop robust, reproducible in vitro experimental workflows while answering key scientific questions. The co-op will collaborate with other internal research stakeholders and contribute to both established research workflows and the development of new experimental capabilities.

Key Deliverables and Responsibilities:

• Assist with the generation, maintenance, and characterization of iPSCs and iPSC-derived cell types for research.
• Help automate selected laboratory protocols using a Molecular Devices CellXpress robotic platform, working closely with team members to translate manual workflows into automated processes.
• Perform and support molecular and cellular biology assays to characterize cellular health, redox state, and disease-associated phenotypes.
• Maintain accurate experimental records and contribute to the interpretation and communication of results.
• Support the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of experimental protocols to improve assay robustness and reproducibility.
• Contribute to cross-functional projects involving experimental design, protocol development, automation, and data analysis.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have a background in biology, cell biology, bioengineering, or a related field. Hands-on laboratory experience is preferred, along with an interest in developing technical skills in both experimental biology and laboratory automation. Experience with iPSC culture, molecular biology techniques, or robotics/automation would be advantageous.

Eligibility Requirements

To participate in the Biogen Internship or Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
• At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited community college, college, university or skills program/apprenticeship.

Education Requirements

• Degree level(s): Has a Bachelor’s Degree. Can be a Masters student or PhD candidate.
• Preferred majors/programs: Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biochemical Engineering, Biology, Biotechnology.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $29.00-$33.00

The actual hourly wage offered will consider the candidate’s current academic level and degree candidacy, inclusive of Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s, JD, MD, PhD and MBA programs. It will comply with state or local minimum wage requirements specific to the job location.
