Environmental Specialist II
DGS Office of External Affairs
The Environmental Specialist II is a first-level intermediate position with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection located in Fort Myers, FL. The role processes permit applications and conducts compliance inspections for the Submerged Lands and Environmental Resource Coordination (SLERC) Program, reviewing dredging, filling, wetland determinations, and mangrove trimming activities. The incumbent applies scientific understanding to analyze environmental compliance issues and prepares technical reports in accordance with Florida statutes and administrative codes. Key qualifications At least 4 years of verifiable experience in regulatory inspection, compliance, permitting, or related professional work Knowledge of physical or natural sciences principles and analytical techniques Ability to collect, evaluate, and interpret scientific and technical data Valid driver's license and ability to travel, including overnight trips Ability to perform field inspections including climbing, lifting 40 pounds, and working outdoors in South Florida conditions Must obtain Certified Wetland Evaluator (CWE) certification within 6 months of hire #J-18808-Ljbffr
