Job Title: 1st Shift Maintenance Technician CNC Equipment Job Description

The 1st Shift Maintenance Technician plays a key role in keeping CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and related equipment operating safely and efficiently in a precision aerospace job shop environment. This role focuses on preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical issues, supporting facility upkeep, and maintaining accurate records in maintenance systems.

• Perform preventive maintenance tasks on CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and other production equipment according to established schedules and procedures.
• Execute unscheduled and corrective maintenance on CNC equipment to minimize machine downtime and maintain production flow.
• Assist in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and control issues on CNC machines and recommend effective repair solutions.
• Carry out facilities maintenance tasks to ensure the building, utilities, and support systems operate reliably and safely.
• Help maintain an accurate inventory of maintenance supplies, spare parts, and tools, and report usage and replenishment needs.
• Complete data collection and documentation in JobBoss and other applications, including maintenance logs, work orders, and equipment history.
• Safely operate a forklift to move equipment, materials, and components throughout the facility as needed.
• Organize and maintain workstations and maintenance areas in accordance with 5S standards for cleanliness, order, and efficiency.
• Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines while performing maintenance and facility tasks.
• Collaborate with production and quality teams to support equipment readiness for complex aerospace machining runs with tight tolerances.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Maintenance Technician working specifically on CNC machines.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot CNC machines, including mills, lathes, and grinders.
• Hands-on experience performing maintenance and troubleshooting on CNC mills, lathes, and grinders in a production environment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical components and assemblies.
• Experience with facilities maintenance, including basic building, utility, and support system upkeep.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings for CNC equipment.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance and unscheduled maintenance on CNC machinery.
• Capability to troubleshoot electrical issues related to CNC machines and supporting equipment.
• Competence in machine maintenance and troubleshooting across multiple types of machining equipment.
• Ability to use maintenance software such as JobBoss or similar applications for data entry and record keeping.
• Understanding of and adherence to 5S organization and housekeeping standards.
• Ability to safely operate a forklift to move equipment and materials within the facility.

• Experience working in a job shop machining environment, particularly within the aerospace industry.
• Comfort working with complex parts that require very close tolerances and precise machining.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across both mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ability to communicate clearly with production, engineering, and quality teams regarding equipment status and repair needs.
• Participation in structured skill-level training programs, including progressive levels of maintenance proficiency.
• Interest in or eligibility for apprenticeship programs through local technical or community colleges (such as GRCC).
• Commitment to continuous learning and improvement in maintenance techniques, quality standards, and safety practices.

The role is based in a temperature-controlled job shop machining center serving the aerospace industry, where production runs typically range from 20 to 70 pieces. The parts produced are highly complex and must meet very close tolerances, requiring reliable, well-maintained CNC equipment and a strong focus on quality. Work is performed on 1st shift, with shift structures that may vary between four 10-hour days, five 8-hour days, or five 9-hour days, with overtime as needed to support production demands. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and organization in line with 5S standards, and utilizes technologies such as CNC mills, lathes, grinders, JobBoss software, and forklifts to support daily operations.

This is a Permanent position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

The pay range for this position is $72800.00 - $83200.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
