Sr. Staff Software Engineer

Role Description

Suralink is looking for a technical leader who can set an inspiring vision and strategy, collaborate with partners, mentor other technical leaders, and improve the architecture and technical excellence of the organization.

We seek someone with strong AI fluency who understands how modern AI capabilities are changing software, architecture, and business strategy. You do not need to be an AI specialist, but you should be able to:

• Evaluate where AI can create real value.
• Understand its trade-offs and risks.
• Help teams incorporate it thoughtfully into the broader technical strategy.
• Stay up to date with industry advancements.

As a Senior Staff Engineer at Suralink, you will:

• Play a pivotal role at the intersection of technical strategy and leadership.
• Drive architectural coherence across teams and foster alignment with broader business objectives.
• Set long-term technical visions and guide teams toward shared, impactful outcomes.
• Navigate ambiguity to define clear paths forward.
• Articulate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building and shipping production-grade software or services.
• Strong understanding of software design patterns and principles.
• Experience setting architecture vision and strategy for a group of teams.
• Experience driving architectural decisions or patterns through their full lifecycle.
• Experience helping teams apply AI thoughtfully in product and architecture decisions.
• Experience in developing highly available services at scale.
• Ability to collaborate across teams and leaders.
• Strong communication skills to interact with diverse audiences.
• Experience and passion for mentoring and guiding engineers.
• Inspiring leader who can create and communicate a vision or plan.
• A strategic thinker with a customer focus and product understanding.
• Ability to make tough trade-off decisions with the long-term view of customers in mind.
• 10+ years of experience building distributed services.

Requirements

• Experience in some or all of the following: AWS, React, node.js, TypeScript, PHP, MySQL, NoSQL DBs.
• Experience with Cursor or Claude Code/Cowork.
