This is an Internal Employment Opportunity. Disability Access Services is seeking two hourly Academic Wage: Accessible Formats Coordinators. These are part-time (0.49 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term positions.
Disability Access Services (DAS) aspires and actively works towards equitable and accessible experiences for students with disabilities at Oregon State University (OSU). DAS serves the mission of OSU by providing access to educational opportunities to a population who has historically been disadvantaged in higher education, students with disabilities. DAS supports disabled students by providing reasonable and appropriate accommodations as required by Federal and State laws. DAS promotes the development of student self-advocacy skills while maintaining fundamental academic and technical standards. This short-term Coordinator for Accessible Formats position works to deliver accessible content to disabled students based on their approved and requested accommodations. This position makes decisions that require knowledge of disabilities, the functional impact of those disabilities, and assistive technologies required to provide students equal access to the programs and services provided by OSU. The incumbent analyzes situations accurately, evaluates alternatives and adopts an effective course of action at the direction of the Assistant Director for DAS Technology. This position also makes decisions and determinations on the best way to convert information into an accessible format. This position reports to and assists the Assistant Director for DAS Technology. - Tracks workflow and progress of captioning and alternative formats requests, maintains accurate records of all converted materials, and reports to the Asst. Director DAS Technology on updates.
- Collaborates with the Asst. Director DAS Technology and Accessible Formats Coordinator on project management related to remediation plans, tasks, and timelines.
- Makes independent decisions around adjustments to how materials may be converted into an accessible format and managing risks and issues related to the remediation process.
- Collaborates with the Asst. Director DAS Technology to obtain copyright permissions and to create alternative formats in-house.
- Supervises process of remediating print and electronic files and/or process of captioning accessible audio/video files from physical and electronic sources by leading and assisting in the implementation projects as directed by the Asst. Director DAS Technology.
- Responsible for the oversight of day-to-day workflow and organization of alternative format service projects and captioning and decisions involved in managing that workflow.
- Works in collaborations with the Asst. Director DAS Technology in implementing, developing and maintaining workflow processes, by overseeing the DAS Technology Assistant(s) and student workers on established goals and objectives.
- Collaborates with the Asst. Director DAS Technology in development of documentation, communication plans, and monitoring/tracking of project progress.
- Leads and oversees student workers with the day-to-day alternative format development including, planning, preparing, and performing the conversion of required academic materials into alternate formats.
- Manages and oversees the student workers in creating materials around captioning and alternative formats.
- Provides direction to the student workers.
- Helps coordinate work schedules for student workers.
- Reviews work for accuracy prior to delivery of alternative formats to students receiving materials.
- Responsible for training and oversight of final product/materials completed by the student workers.
- Upload notes and emails into AIM database to ensure best practices are followed.
- Assists in creating captions and conversion of alternative formats as necessary.
- Provides direct training to the student workers in file preparation, remediation, and video captioning tasks.
- Work in collaboration with DAS team in planning and developing alternative formats.
- Collaborate with DAS advisers when a student reports a barrier to access with materials.
- Attends meetings with Asst. Director DAS Technology, faculty, and students receiving approved accommodations for initial consultation.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Disability Services, Information Technology, Management, Liberal Arts, or a relevant field.
- Experience assisting in project management with the ability to document, analyze, track, prioritize, and evaluate risks and required resources.
- Works well independently and as a team member.
- Experience assisting in project management.
- Task management skills including ability to identify risks and required resources to keep projects on task and meet deadlines.
- Ability to learn, understand, and master new technologies under short deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and ability to multitask.
- Excellent communication skills.

- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding disability access and compliance, including Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and the ADA.
- 2 years of working with individuals with disabilities in an educational setting.
- Experience in remediating materials into Accessible PDFs, HTML, Braille, and tactile graphics.
- Experience with technology used in an academic setting, websites, databases, learning management and course presentation software (i.e. Canvas, Google Documents, etc.).
- Supervisory experience.
