Position Title: Behavioral Health Support Specialist (BS)

Shift: Full-Time, Days

Department: Psychiatry Department BHS - Collaborative

Work Location: Riley Peds South and Riley Peds Morgan clinics (Southport/Martinsville)

Position Overview: This role provides behavioral health support for patients in collaboration with primary care providers and licensed behavioral health clinicians. The Specialist facilitates patient involvement in treatment and education, acting as a liaison among medical staff, patients, families, and external agencies. Responsibilities include conducting mental health triage, evaluating psychosocial risk factors under clinical supervision, implementing evidence-based interventions for individuals, groups, and families, and supporting discharge planning, utilization review, and case triage. The position also serves as the primary contact for cases involving abuse, neglect, and domestic violence, coordinating efforts with protective teams and community resources.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure safe, timely, and resource-appropriate patient care.

Conduct mental health triage upon provider referral, assessing psychosocial risks.

Implement evidence-based behavioral health interventions with individuals, groups, and families.

Assist in discharge planning and utilization review under supervision.

Serve as liaison for cases involving child and adult abuse, neglect, and domestic violence; coordinate with protective agencies.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with community agencies, law enforcement, schools, and legal entities.

Document all clinical activities thoroughly within electronic medical records.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related mental health field.

0-3 years of relevant healthcare, mental health, or community experience.

License aligned with Indiana state code IC 25-23.6-4-1; LBSW required for BSW holders.

Certification in crisis intervention (may be required); BLS certification may also be required.

Knowledge of therapeutic interventions, crisis de-escalation techniques, and legal mandates for protective services.

Understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan.

Ability to create a safe, therapeutic environment and facilitate daily activities.

Basic proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Strong relationship-building skills with community, healthcare, law enforcement, and social service agencies.
