Shop Foreman

Transdev is now hiring a Shop Foreman at DC Water in Capitol Heights, Maryland! Transdev in Capitol Heights, Maryland is seeking a Shop Foreman to bolster our team. This role will be responsible for supervising and assigning work for employees to maximize labor utilization and employee technical competencies, monitoring productivity, ensuring quality and quantity of work output, and the efficiency of the department. As a Shop Foreman, you will play a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity for our vehicles. Compensation will be in the range of $35.00 to $45.00 per hour. Key Responsibilities Supervise mechanics, investigate issues and problems, and provide information concerning employee performance. Work closely with the General Manager/Operations Manager to monitor productivity and perform required quality audits on work performed during the assigned shift. Provide feedback to the General Manager/Operations Manager on employee performance and technical training needs. Assist with monitoring and meeting standards/goals of analytical targets such as priority level 1 availability, productivity, financial performance, and PM compliance. Plan and assign work for employees to maximize labor utilization and technical competencies. Consult with mechanics on diagnosis and procedures for repair and assist with technical questions. Ensure proper utilization of client software by all assigned personnel. Ensure completion of client software supervisory activity by the end of the assigned shift. Maintain a clean facility/grounds and ensure that all personnel work in a safe manner. Ensure compliance with all shift and shop reporting requirements. Supervise shop operations to support service requirements. Work with the General Manager/Operations Manager to determine the root cause for poor labor utilization, rework, and service interruptions. Ensure that work orders for vehicle repairs are performed, review past work orders, and assist in the review and closure of current work orders. Oversee inspections and complete vehicle safety assessments to ensure vehicles are safe to operate and meet all requirements. Work with parts personnel to obtain the correct replacement parts. Assist the General Manager/Operations Manager and Service department with the listing and scheduling of vehicles for preventative maintenance. Monitor the status of down/out-of-service vehicles or equipment and issue a daily report. Maintain moderate contact with outside vendors regarding vehicle repair/maintenance. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure safe and efficient operation of the location. Qualifications High School Diploma; a college degree or some college credit preferred. 3 or more years of technical experience. 2 or more years of supervisory experience overseeing employees. Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair a broad range of vehicle and equipment service issues. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Must possess a valid license. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint). Detail-oriented, well organized, and possess effective time management skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information/situations. Demonstrate poise, tact, and diplomacy. Team player capable of working independently. Ability to work well with a diverse group of internal and external customers. Physical Requirements 10% of work is performed indoors in air‑conditioned or well‑ventilated facilities; 90% of work is performed outside. Perform physical activities that require extensive use of the arms, repetitive hand‑wrist motion, and legs, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling passengers and materials. Must be able to lift or handle up to 50 pounds. Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing job duties. Exposure to dust, vehicle fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibrations, and noise. Must be able to work outside in various weather conditions.
