Commodity Manager

Overview Position Summary: Responsible for developing and executing supply and/or vendor management strategies for specific commodities, which ensure appropriate product quality and enhance the company's ability to ship on time while reducing total cost and lead‑time. Responsibilities Develop supply strategies for each assigned commodity. Seek solutions to minimize routine purchase transactions. Play a key role in strategic cost management initiatives. Prepare analysis and plans for negotiations; lead negotiations involving critical suppliers. Develop contracts and supply agreements that protect the company from excess inventory, insufficient supply, unfavorable payment terms, hidden costs, and supplier non‑conformance. Have a thorough understanding of assigned commodities including manufacturing processes, applications, global supply status, price trends, cost drivers, and product migration paths. Identify potential disruption in the supply chain due to changes in a supplier’s business, including their strategic direction, operating results, technical capabilities, and overall performance. Continuously seek to reduce waste in every activity and supplier‑related process or transaction. Purchase and/or contract for materials and services in accordance with company established practices and policies to ensure honest, fair, and ethical relationships with vendors. Exercise the appropriate controls related to the legal aspects of purchasing. Oversee the activities of the buyers and senior buyers on the commodity team. Work with the Materials Manager and QA to maintain and implement an annual supplier audit campaign consistent with requirements for FDA and ISO 9000. Qualifications BS degree in business or engineering. ISM (NAPM) certification preferred. Demonstrated record of cost reduction. Demonstrated computer literacy.
