The work you will do:

• Highway Maintenance Tech Coordinator / Director of Operations/ District Maintenance / South Dade Maint Traffic Svcs #1.
• This position serves as a hands-on lead worker within FDOT District Operations, providing leadership, coordination, and technical support for highway maintenance activities with an emphasis on the assembly and erection of highway signs.
• Responsibilities include coordinating daily maintenance operations for highways, bridges, and transportation infrastructure; directing crew workflows to ensure deadlines, work objectives, and safety standards are met; and assisting with planning, inspections, materials coordination, and operational documentation such as crew activity reports and vehicle logs.
• The role also involves performing manual labor, operating medium-to-heavy equipment, conducting pre- and post-trip inspections, performing preventative maintenance, and assisting with equipment repairs.
• Additionally, this position oversees Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) implementation in accordance with FDOT standards, promotes workplace safety, and supports crew development through training, communication, and leadership to ensure efficient, high-quality maintenance operations.

Annual Salary Range: $40,860.63 - $52,878.46 A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1,934.40 will be added to the annual salary.

Your specific responsibilities:

• Coordinates, participates, and directs the maintenance activity of the assembly and erection of highway signs as needed.
• Assists in selecting materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
• Maintains records of operation. Prepares and maintains daily paperwork such as crew activity reports and daily vehicle check lists.
• Performs manual labor in the maintenance of highways, bridges and other highway facilities while utilizing a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools.
• Upon receipt of the required CDL Instructional permit or license; operates vehicles and a variety of medium and heavy equipment.
• Performs preventative maintenance and pre-trip and post-trip inspections on equipment operated.
• Performs light maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assists in the repairs of this equipment; checks and adds fluids, checks/adjusts brakes, maintains proper air pressure in all tires, etc.
• Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
• Motivates crew members to improve the quality of work performed and assists in the evaluation of others.
• Communicates on a regular basis with employees both individually and in crew meetings. Trains crew members in basic Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).

The successful candidate will have the following required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Knowledge of: Mathematical calculations Standard safety rules and procedures The procedures, techniques and use of medium/heavy equipment in the maintenance and repair of highways, bridges and/or other highway structures Crew leading principles and practices
• Skills in: Operating a variety of hand and power tools Operating and performing minor maintenance on medium/heavy equipment and vehicles Filling out reports and forms and maintaining accurate records Communicating both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions
• Ability to: Train others Read and understand job-related materials Develop and maintain effective working relationships with others Lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds Stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis Work outdoors in various weather conditions, on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic Stand for an extended period of time Work independently and make job-related decisions

Other job-related requirements:

• Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent must respond to emergencies when necessary.
• Possess a valid Class "E" driver's license and obtain a Class "B" CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment to position and obtain a valid Class "B" CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment to the position.
• While on-duty status, the position's incumbent must be readily available to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of Commercial Driver's License (CDL) the incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis performs other CMV safety-sensitive functions.
• Obtains and maintains certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) Intermediate Level.
• The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.

Minimum qualifications:

• Possess a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency. One year of experience in infrastructure construction or maintenance is a substitute for a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency.
• Possess a valid Class "E" driver's license and obtain a Class "B" Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment to position and obtain a valid Class "B" CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment to the position.
• This position requires a valid Class "E "driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Driver's Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following: three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation; any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years; a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.
• In order to be eligible for hire into a position requiring a Commercial Driver License (CDL), applicants must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Drug and Alcohol (FMCSA) Clearinghouse, as required, for the Department to conduct a pre-employment query.
• A mandatory drug screening will be performed on the successful applicant.
• To be considered for employment, applicants must meet the qualifications outlined in Title 49 CFR Part 391.11.
• Applicants hired for this position with a Class E license will be required to obtain a Commercial Learners Permit (CLP) within 60 days of appointment, attend CDL training and successfully pass the CDL licensing test and obtain a CDL Class B license with air brakes within 10 months after appointment to the position.
• Once the CLP is obtained, candidates must register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse, as required, for the Department to conduct a query.
• Upon hire, this position also requires the applicant to have an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Driver's Record Requirements Policy.
• The costs of the initial CDL training and initial testing will be paid by the Department, subject to available funding. An employee will be given three chances to pass the license requirements. The employee will be responsible for paying for the initial CLP fee, as well as any additional training and re-test costs, and the CDL fee. If the employee voluntarily separates
