A & Associates is seeking an experienced, hands-on  Controller to lead and oversee our Accounting Department. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and will be responsible for the day-to-day management, accuracy, organization, and effectiveness of the company's accounting operations.

A & Associates is a growing, multi-division organization with operations spanning staffing, security, insurance, and related business activities. We are looking for a strong accounting professional who can take ownership of the accounting function, lead the accounting team, strengthen processes and internal controls, and provide accurate and timely financial information to executive management.

The ideal candidate is not simply a reviewer of financial information. We are seeking someone who understands accounting at a detailed level, can identify and correct issues, establish efficient processes, develop accounting staff, and ensure that the company's books and financial reporting are accurate and well organized.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Direct and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, payroll accounting, and financial reporting.
• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes and ensure all accounts are properly reconciled and financial statements are completed accurately and on time.
• Prepare and/or review monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow information, supporting schedules, and management reports.
• Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the company's general ledger and chart of accounts.
• Review accounting activity across multiple companies, divisions, accounts, and cost centers and ensure transactions are properly recorded and classified.
• Manage, train, supervise, and evaluate Accounting Department employees while establishing clear responsibilities, deadlines, and accountability.
• Review the work of accounting staff and ensure accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and other accounting functions are completed accurately and timely.
• Establish, document, and maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Identify weaknesses or inefficiencies within existing accounting processes and implement improvements.
• Maintain and optimize the company's accounting operations within  QuickBooks . Advanced QuickBooks knowledge and experience are required for this position.
• Prepare, review, and approve journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and account reconciliations.
• Oversee bank reconciliations and ensure discrepancies are researched and resolved promptly.
• Monitor accounts receivable, aging reports, collections, and cash receipts and work with management to address outstanding balances.
• Oversee accounts payable processes, vendor records, payment controls, and proper expense classification.
• Assist the CFO with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow analysis, financial reporting, and other financial projects.
• Prepare and manage state revenue tax filings.
• Provide the CFO and executive management with reliable financial information and proactively identify accounting concerns, unusual activity, trends, and areas requiring attention.
• Handle special accounting and financial projects as assigned by the CFO and executive management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Controller will oversee the Accounting Department and will be responsible for assigning and reviewing work, establishing accounting procedures, developing staff, monitoring deadlines, and ensuring the department operates accurately and efficiently.

The Controller will serve as the company's senior day-to-day accounting leader and report directly to the CFO.

QUALIFICATIONS

To be successful in this position, an individual must possess strong technical accounting knowledge as well as the leadership skills necessary to independently manage an accounting department.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, accountable, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of the company's accounting operations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience , including experience in a senior accounting, Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or Controller role.
• Demonstrated experience managing or supervising accounting personnel.
• Strong experience with month-end and year-end close.
• Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing financial statements.
• Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.
• Advanced QuickBooks experience is required.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to identify accounting discrepancies and independently research and resolve them.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple companies, priorities, and deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to executives and non-accounting personnel.

Compensation:  $85,000-100,000 annually, dependent upon experience and qualifications
