Job Description
The Entry-Level Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist supports the site's environmental, health, and safety programs by assisting with inspections, regulatory compliance activities, waste management processes, and employee safety initiatives. This role works closely with internal departments and external vendors to maintain a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace. This is an excellent opportunity for a new grads or early-career professional looking to build a career in Environmental Health & Safety.
Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections of safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, automated external defibrillators (AEDs), emergency response equipment, and safety stations.
• Maintain inspection records and ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Coordinate with external vendors for hazardous waste removal, chemical disposal, biohazard waste management, and recycling services.
• Support the site's environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives.
• Assist with the administration and continuous improvement of the facility recycling program.
• Maintain EHS documentation, logs, permits, and safety records.
• Participate in workplace safety audits and inspections.
• Help investigate safety incidents, near misses, and corrective actions.
• Assist with employee safety training and awareness programs.
• Support emergency preparedness and response efforts.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to promote a strong safety culture.
• Perform additional EHS-related projects and duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees, vendors, and colleagues.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Internship, co-op, or 1+ years of EHS, manufacturing, laboratory, or industrial experience.
• Knowledge of OSHA requirements, hazard communication programs, chemical handling procedures, and hazardous waste management.
• First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Experience maintaining safety records and compliance documentation.
• Base understanding of GMP safety and other quality regulations within a manufacturing environment is preferred.
• FDA experience is a plus but not required.

Work Environment
The candidate will be on their feet most of the day and will report to one supervisor. They will also help with chemical and hazardous waste management. The role offers the opportunity to grow and have a very hands-on approach to EHS. The work involves regular walking through production, laboratory, warehouse, or manufacturing areas and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. The candidate must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Austin, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
