WGTS 91.9 is a Federal Communications Commission licensed noncommercial radio station owned and operated by Atlantic Gateway Communications, Inc., (AGC) which is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a registered nonprofit organization in the State of Maryland.
SUMMARY
The On-Air Co-Host is responsible for creating, producing, and communicating via broadcast and online distribution systems, spiritually encouraging, Christian based content and conversation, interacting with listeners, news, interviews, weather, traffic, devotionals, and other matters of interest. Represents the ministry to the community in multiple ways – in-person and on-location. Develops creative and compelling content that helps AGC achieve its mission and vision.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains an engaging, conversational on-air presence at all times.
- Plays music, spots, and various elements on the air from numerous pieces of equipment and software delivering compelling, interactive, spiritually uplifting, and entertaining live content in real-time over the air from our broadcast studios and at times on location.
- In the absence of the lead host, the co-host must be capable of assuming all on-air responsibilities; either solo, or with a temporary co-host.
- Substitutes for other on-air hosta at other times of the day when requested.
- Produces, writes, records, and edits (using multitrack digital editor) short feature programs, spots, bits, and elements for broadcast.
- Engages listeners through story-telling, and focused calls to action, in giving during multiple on-air fundraising events each year
- Thinks on their feet and responds to live developments.
- Preshow prep: research topics, scripts, trending news, community pulse
- Conducts interviews in the studio, via phone, and Internet for live and pre-recorded broadcasts. Prepares and edits interviews for on-air use and online distribution such as podcasts and our website and apps
- Determines news, weather, and traffic information appropriate for our broadcast and audience. Writes and edits news copy. Prepares and delivers this informational content live in an engaging way.
- Prepares, writes, and reviews public service announcements, underwriting announcements, pre-recorded reports, and audio elements.
- Collaborates with co-host, producer, assistant and program director to create timely program content.
- Engages in the talent and voice coaching process.
- Attends and guides daily production meetings – listening to and analyzing the days delivered content and prepares for the following day.
- Operates numerous pieces of office, radio broadcast, remote broadcast, and audio editing software and equipment.
- Answers phone calls, records, edits, and determines what should and shouldn’t be aired.
- Represents station at a broad variety of industry and community functions and events.
- Hosts and presents upfront at various community functions and events, including schools, churches, and community organizations.
- Hosts and presents as requested during online only presentations whether YouTube, social media, or something else.
- Works as talent in front of the camera writing and recording features such as devotionals, promotional content, interviews, games with guests, short form and long form.
- Develops creative contests and issues prizes to winners in accordance with FCC regulations and AGC procedures.
- Develops, produces, and distributes written, video, audio, and graphical content daily via a variety of social media platforms and websites.
- Adjusts content at the direction of Program Director, research and feedback.
- Considers the target audience in all content decisions and delivery.
- Invests time in getting to know the target audience and spends time with them at station events, by giving station tours, by talking with them in the online (incoming and outgoing).
- Communicates via email, phone, and in person with financial donors, and people of influence.
- Participates in designing and executing ways of growing our listener contact list.
- Ensures that the WGTS 91.9 transmitter is operating within FCC-determined parameters, adjusting transmitter power when necessary or shutting down the system completely if conditions require it.
- Runs broadcasting tests as requested by the chief engineer.
- Ensures FCC compliance (e.g. IDs, profanity).
- Supports the engineering team as needed when troubleshooting studio equipment issues.
- Reports dead air or system problems immediately.
- Develops a general understanding of the central equipment rack as requested by the chief engineer.
- Monitors the on-air broadcast and the online Netcast at the beginning of each shift for delivery stability.
- Monitors for EAS alerts; record and air as directed.
- Serves as spokesperson for WGTS 91.9 at partner meetings and events as requested.
- Assists in other media activities as requested.
- Attends and presents at various fundraising events, including networking with donors.
- Participates in departmental and organization meetings as requested.
- Maintains a broader media and a specific CCM industry awareness.
- Develops and pitches creative ideas to the Program Director for improving the broadcast, and expanding the reach.
- Fosters an environment of professional development.
- Contributes to the broader AGC team effort to encourage our listeners to take one step closer to Christ.
- Mentors interns and producers as requested.
- Subs for other AGC employed announcers at times – live and/or voice-tracked shows.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field required.
- Minimum of 5 years as a drive-time air talent; large/major market experience preferred.
- Proven capability of accurately executing FCC rules and regulations
- Demonstrated experience supporting teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated exceptional planning and multi-tasking ability
Language Skills
- Superior command of English grammar and spelling.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional presentation and public speaking skills.
Mathematical and Technology Skills
- Experienced with radio-specific software including automation systems and audio editing, for example.
- Basic understanding of how to operate standard business equipment
- Working knowledge and application of Microsoft 365, including Teams.
- Knowledge and application of Adobe Audition Editing Suite, VoxPro recording equipment, basic video recording and editing software, general radio studio software, professional social media platform software.
