High School Math Teacher – Deering High Job ID: 5523. Position Type: Teacher – High School Classroom / Math, Grades 9-12. Location: Deering High School. Date Available: 08/24/2026. Position Overview Deering High School is hiring a full‑time Math Teacher to join our team. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to equitable teaching practices, be willing to collaborate closely with others, and teach to high standards in a heterogeneous classroom. Experience with the Envision curriculum and working with multilingual learners is preferred. Under the direction of the school principal, the Math Teacher plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students, fosters an environment conducive to physical, social, and emotional development, supervises students in various school settings, monitors and evaluates outcomes, and maintains required records and procedures. Essential Responsibilities Implement state learning standards and Deering curricula to give all students access to rigorous and engaging grade‑level work. Collaborate with colleagues to improve student outcomes through analysis, instructional adjustments, and shared strategies. Manage student behavior in alignment with school‑wide expectations, ensuring consistency, equity, and student‑centered practices. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students and families based on trust and respect. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of PPS curriculum, integration techniques, PPS policies, and effective instructional practices. Experience with proficiency‑based grading and developing high‑quality, student‑friendly rubrics. Strong understanding of pedagogical mechanics and differentiation strategies for heterogeneous classes. Willingness to collaborate with ELL and Special Education teachers to design effective lessons and assessments. Ability to teach with cultural humility, questioning deeply held beliefs and grappling with conflicting perspectives. Proficient use of technology for teaching and communication. Effective collaboration with administrators, colleagues, central office, and the community. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Education, Training, and Experience Bachelor’s degree in education or related field from an accredited institution. Master’s degree preferred. ESOL experience or certification (660 Endorsement) preferred. Credential Requirements Maine State Teacher Certificate with 300 Endorsement (Math, 6‑12). Employment Details Schedule: School year, full time (1.0 FTE). Salary: Based on education and experience, as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
