About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 18 months Med/Tele RN experience License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: General post-surgical skillset including incision care, assessment, drains, chest tubes, wound care/wound vacs, mobility, education, trach care, NG tube insertion, and use of braces/traction. Description: The facility has 457 licensed beds and is a Trauma Level III facility. It serves as a teaching hospital and a center of excellence for chest pain and stroke. The unit has 28 beds and typically provides care for patients with orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, trauma, vascular surgery, and medical overflow. Patient ratios are generally 1:4-6, with surge times potentially reaching 1:7-8. Support within the department includes CNAs for phlebotomy, activities of daily living, Foley insertion/removal, and peripheral IV site removal. A charge nurse provides indirect support as needed. There is a Resource Team and Hospitalist available 24/7 along with remote telemetry monitoring. Patient Safety Attendants and the Behavioral Response Team are utilized when additional observation or de-escalation measures are required. The Rapid Response and Code Teams are also available for changes in patient condition. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC, with BD Alaris for IV pumping and Omnicell for medication dispensing. Travellers are required to float within the region based on practice needs. Weekends are scheduled for every other week, and travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved up to 6 days, excluding holidays. Scrub color is navy, and there is a positive, supportive unit culture.
