Traffic Accident Investigator

Traffic Accident Investigator (TAI) The Coral Springs Police Department (CSPD) seeks a Traffic Accident Investigator to investigate all types of traffic crashes, determine fault, issue state citations, and testify in court. Traffic Accident Investigators also handle related criminal and non‑criminal incidents, collect evidence, free up road patrol officers, and support community safety initiatives. Responsibilities Investigate minor, fatal, DUI, hit & run crashes; prepare crash reports and drawings per Florida guidelines. Determine fault and issue state citations. Investigate theft reports and collect evidence and witness statements. Respond to court subpoenas and testify in depositions. Prepare reports for offenses such as theft, burglary of vehicles, auto parts theft, credit card fraud, property damage, missing persons, abandoned vehicles, and animal complaints. Conduct interviews with witnesses, victims, and suspects. Respond to non‑priority calls (e.g., disabled vehicles, traffic direction). Process crime scenes for latent fingerprints and physical evidence, following proper chain of custody. Investigate citizen complaints (e.g., truck parking, city ordinance violations). Attend city functions, perform bicycle registrations, explain crime prevention. Assist with vehicle identification number (VIN) verification for title applications. Provide emergency medical assistance (CPR, first aid) to injured persons at crash scenes. Work nights, weekends, and holidays as required. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Some related experience. Completion of 104‑hour Police Service Aide Foundations course if not already completed. Certification in Traffic Control and Direction, Parking Enforcement, First Responder First Aid and CPR upon hire. Valid Florida driver’s license. Work Environment The position involves ordinary office risks and basic safety precautions, including proper use of office equipment, prevention of trips and falls, and adherence to building and traffic safety regulations.
