Director, AI

Overview

Moonshot builds the power infrastructure that makes AI possible. Our switchboards, panelboards, PDUs, and custom solutions go into the largest AI datacenter deployments in the country. We are not just building for AI - we are becoming the premier adopter of AI in manufacturing. As Director of AI, you will own the strategy, governance, and vision for how Moonshot leverages AI across the entire organization. This is AI applied to real manufacturing operations - production, quoting, supply chain, ERP, engineering, and quality - at a company in hypergrowth. This role reports directly to the CTO.

Key Responsibilities

• AI Strategy and Roadmap: Define and own Moonshot's enterprise AI strategy. Build a phased roadmap that sequences AI adoption by business impact, feasibility, and organizational readiness. Present the vision to executive leadership.
• Governance and Policy: Establish the framework for how Moonshot uses AI: usage policies, data governance, model selection standards, vendor evaluation criteria, and risk management. Ensure AI is adopted responsibly and sustainably, not haphazardly.
• Tool and Platform Evaluation: Evaluate, select, and recommend AI platforms and tools for the organization. Own the build-vs-buy decision for AI capabilities. Manage vendor relationships for AI-specific products and services.
• ROI and Measurement: Define how AI investments are measured. Every initiative needs a hypothesis, a success metric, and a review. No tool without an adoption plan, no adoption plan without a measurable outcome.
• Cross-Functional AI Vision: Work with every department to identify where AI creates the most leverage - manufacturing, engineering, sales, operations, finance, HR. Translate departmental pain points into AI-enabled solutions and prioritize across the enterprise.
• Industry Positioning: Stay ahead of AI trends in manufacturing and industrial operations. Build Moonshot's reputation as a leader in AI adoption. Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and with strategic partners.

Qualifications

Experience:

• 8+ years in technology leadership, with at least 3 years focused on AI strategy, data science, or enterprise AI programs.
• Demonstrated experience building an AI roadmap and driving adoption across a non-technical organization.
• Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or operationally complex environments is strongly preferred.
• Track record of measuring and communicating AI ROI to executive leadership.

Skills:

• Deep understanding of the current AI landscape: LLMs, automation platforms, computer vision, predictive analytics, and where each applies in an operational context.
• Ability to communicate AI concepts to non-technical executives and frontline teams alike.
• Strong governance and risk management instincts - you know when to push forward and when to put guardrails in place.
• Comfort operating in a fast-moving, scaling environment where structure is still being built.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Business, or equivalent experience.
• Advanced degree or AI-specific certifications are a plus but not required.
