Activities AssistantThe Activities Assistant supports the overall department. The assistant loads, transports, and unloads residents safely for personal errands, medical appointments and activity outings in accordance with all laws, regulations and Century Park standards. Additionally, the assistant supports the department with implementing quality activities for residents as requested. Reports to the Lifestyles Services Director.Working ConditionsAttends and participates in continuing education programsWorks in vehicle, transporting residents, as well as in department and throughout communityMay be assigned to other appropriate positions as necessarySubject to frequent interruptionsInvolved with residents, associates, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc. under all conditions and circumstancesSubject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporary as necessarySubject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the workdayPossible exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the AIDS and hepatitis B virusesEducation and ExperienceMust be high school graduate or equivalentA valid commercial drivers' license (CDL) with P endorsement in current state with satisfactory driving record is preferred.Prior experience with seniors preferredSpecific RequirementsMust complete pre-inspections before use of vehicleMust be able to transport residents to and from appointments and activities and assist the Director with activities.Must be able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actionMust demonstrate excellent customer service and hospitalityMust demonstrate trustworthiness and dependabilityMust perform proficiently in all competency areas including but not limited to: transportation responsibilities, resident rights, and safety and sanitationMaintains those with special needsDemonstrates safe driving techniques to protect our residentsTracks mileage in vehicle logAssists Lifestyle Services Director in implementing quality activity programs including weekends and eveningsAssists residents directly in Lifestyle ServicesAssists with planning monthly Lifestyle Services calendarCommunicates monthly calendar of Lifestyle Services to residents and staffAssists volunteers to help with Lifestyle ServicesWelcomes and assists new residents with adjustment to communityEncourages Lifestyle Services geared toward residents' abilities and interests – involves residents and familiesEncourages social involvement through outings and events: shopping, sightseeing, scenic, parks, dining out, sports events, drama/theater, etc.Encourages intellectual and educational development thorough literature, lectures, movies and cultural eventsEncourages entertainment and personal development through hobbies, music and craftsEncourages wellness and healthy lifestyle through exercise programsEncourages spiritual fulfillment through religious-based activitiesObserves resident's attendance, mood, behavior, involvement and notifies Lifestyle Services Director of concernsMaintains receipts for vehicle expensesWrites-up charge slips for billable transportation provided to residentsResponds proactively to prevent resident injuries during transportingCompletes routine maintenance for safe operation of vehicle (i.e., fluid levels, oil changes, checking tires)Represents the community in professional manner during outings and/or appointmentsWorks cooperatively with other departments (i.e., Sales, Lifestyle Services) to plan and execute special eventsComplies with all Department of Transportation (DOT) standards as required for drivers of vehicles over 10,001 lbs and transporting residents including CDL licenseEssential FunctionsMust be able to safely load, transport and unload residentsMust exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards residentsMust be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English languageMust practice regular and predictable attendance including punctuality for
