GENERAL STATEMENT

The Beach Pride Events Manager is responsible for the day-to-day development and production of student events sponsored by the Associated Students, Incorporated (ASI) and its University Student Union (USU). The incumbent assists in the formulation, coordination, and execution of the social, cultural, educational and entertainment programming in collaboration with the Assistant Director, Programs. This position advises the Beach Pride Events students on aspects of general weekly programming, and in addition works with the student programming department and Assistant Director on major events. The incumbent establishes and maintains effective working relationships with members of the university community and off-campus resources and is responsible for coordination of collaborated programming efforts with the office of Student Life and Development, the Office of Belonging and Inclusion, Student Housing, Athletics, Student Affairs, and other campus programming units.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Assists with the design and implementation of a wide range of co-curricular, culturally diverse events and activities to enhance the USU environment, foster student engagement with the CSULB campus, and support annual ASI Student Government and corporate initiatives. Plans and executes daily events such as entertainment and educational programs, shows, theatrical events, lectures, and other student-driven programming activities.

2. Collaborates with the Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC) programming staff as needed in the design and implementation of co-curricular, culturally diverse events and activities to enhance the SRWC facility.

3. Maintains connection between Beach Pride Events and ASI Student Government for collaborative events and overall programming efforts for ASI.

4. Plans and negotiates entertainment contracts in consultation with the Assistant Director, Programs. Maintains contact with vendors. Continuously develops list of frequently used and approved vendors with the campus.

5. Makes the necessary event scheduling, equipment and logistical arrangements for the facilities. Evaluates risk management and safety protocols in all ASI events in coordination with the Assistant Director, Programs.

6. Assists and advises in the evaluation of programs and activities that measure student satisfaction in conjunction with ASI goals and objectives, student learning outcomes, and program effectiveness. Makes recommendations for change through analysis of program participation, student surveys, and needs assessments.

7. Provides information and interpretation of ASI policies and procedures related to programming to student event assistants and other involved parties.

8. Develops and maintains relationships with faculty and staff to exchange and update information and to enlist support for programs through faculty advisement, group membership, guests speaking engagements, etc. Serves on various university committees as requested.

9. Provides direction to the student programming department to ensure a comprehensive programming plan for the ASI and USU. Guides students in the design and delivery of student programs, services, and special events. Evaluates student proposals and suggests modifications.

10. Ensure successful delivery of diversity-oriented programs and monitor the effectiveness of inclusive cultural, diversity and identity-based programs. Assist student programming to create an intentional focus on diversity, equity, access and inclusion events.

11. Ensures that events programmed by Beach Pride Events are marketed in an effective and professional manner to ensure that all students are informed of events. Arrange publicity, advertising and program promotions though social media, publications, flyers, posters, website, newspaper ads and other relevant media.

12. Provides professional development training program for student staff and volunteers to include workshops, seminars, retreats, and networking. Provides leadership, guidance, and advice to student event assistants. Assists them in developing programming skills through the planning and coordination of events and activities. Develops leadership and learning experiences and other learning outcomes for student event assistants.

13. Maintains fiscal oversight of programs produced by Beach Pride Events. Advises student event assistants on the financial status of their programs. Keeps record of receipts and expenditures. Maintains the operating budget for programming areas.

14. Manage the recruitment, supervision, training and development of Beach Pride Events student staff and volunteers.

15. Provides support for event setup and teardown and utilizes ASI carts, vans, and trucks to transport equipment and materials as needed.

16. Other duties as assigned, reasonably within the scope of the job.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly and indirectly supervises staff, including but not limited to student employees and volunteers, as needed, in the Beach Pride Events department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Associated Students policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from four-year college or university in educational psychology, humanities, recreation or job-related field; and one to two years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of event programming principles and practices, preferably in a college union, student affairs, or nonprofit organization setting; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management; working knowledge of interview techniques, the principles and practices of student development and individual and group behavior; general knowledge of research techniques; general knowledge of contract negotiation.

Ability to read, interpret, and communicate information from business, technical, and regulatory materials; prepare reports and correspondence; solve practical problems; interpret written and verbal instructions; use initiative in planning and improving operations; apply basic mathematical concepts; and effectively interact with diverse students, employees, vendors, and community members.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

Current California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as determined by ASI.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Schedule

Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to support and oversee scheduled programs and events as needed.

Appointment to this position is contingent upon successful completion of a comprehensive background check based on reportable last actions.
