The Computed Tomography Technologist I must have the capability to perform work assignments effectively with and without direct supervision. Performs all preliminary tasks to ensure smooth access to the scanner. Explains the procedure and gives directions to patients before the procedure. Assists the patient onto the examination table and back. Positions patients appropriately for the examination requested. Performs all computer and radiographic functions necessary to ensure the scan is correctly and diagnostically executed in minimal time. Uses the multi-format camera and performs secondary support tasks to ensure patient safety during the scan. Assists the radiologist or requesting physician in administering contrast media or other medications as necessary. Assures compliance with all state and federal regulations governing radiation safety and filmed badge programs. Makes the completed scans available to the radiologist for readings. Uses good radiation safety and maintains safety practices at all times. Logs patients in and is responsible for secondary paperwork. Works in the darkroom to process radiographs when required. Reviews films for proper identification and quality checks. Maintains equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition. Provides cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first-aid care to patients when required in the department. Inputs charges into the computer billing system. Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in the care of patients ranging from newborn to geriatric, depending on area of practice or department assignments. Job Requirements

Certification by the State of California, Department of Health Services, as a Radiologic Technologist. Satisfactory completion of formal computed tomography training program (one year) or equivalent on-the-job experience preferred. Possession and maintenance of a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card. Appointees not possessing the BLS card must successfully complete appropriate training and qualify for the BLS card within 60 days of employment. Certification by the American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) as a Radiologic Technologist and Computed Tomography Technologist (ARRT ID required). Graduation from a two-year program in radiologic technology approved by the Council in Medical Education of the American Medical Association. Schedule Information

10 hour shifts - Evenings and nights. Days of the week rotate to include weekends and holidays. 40 hours per week. Additional Details

Knowledge of computed tomography techniques, methods, operation and care of equipment. Knowledge of structural and organic anatomy. Must maintain proficiency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first-aid. Knowledge of acute care hospital procedures. Ability to work within guidelines set by section head without supervision. Ability to schedule workload, maintain records and files. Ability to deal tactfully with patients, physicians and staff. Skills include computed tomography techniques, operation and care of equipment, structural and organic anatomy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first-aid, radiographic functions, patient care, billing system input, on-the-job computed tomography experience, tactful communication with patients, physicians, and staff, acute care hospital procedures, workload scheduling, record maintenance, file management, patient positioning, radiation safety, contrast media administration.
