Control Specs.FLSA Status: Non-ExemptEmployment Type: Full-TimePosition SummaryThe Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient movement, storage, and handling of materials within a food manufacturing environment using powered industrial trucks (PIT), including forklifts and pallet-moving equipment. This position requires strict compliance with OSHA powered industrial truck standards, food safety regulations, and company safety policies. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform these functions:Material Handling & LogisticsReceive, transport, stage, and store raw materials, ingredients, packaging supplies, and finished goodsLoad and unload materials from trucks, racks, conveyors, and production lines using PIT or manual methodsEnsure proper material rotation (FIFO/FEFO), traceability, and segregationVerify quantities, lot numbers, and labeling accuracy during material movementMaintain clear aisles, dock areas, and storage locationsPowered Industrial Truck (PIT) Operation – OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178Safely operate powered industrial trucks (e.g., forklifts, electric pallet jacks) in accordance with OSHA standards and company policiesComplete required OSHA-compliant PIT training, evaluation, and certification prior to operationConduct and document pre-shift equipment inspections and report defects immediatelyOperate PITs only within designated areas and load capacitiesMaintain safe speeds, proper load handling, and pedestrian awarenessPark, secure, and shut down PITs according to safety proceduresFood Safety & QualityComply with GMP, HACCP, sanitation, and allergen control requirements while handling materialsPrevent contamination or product damage during transport and storageIdentify and report damaged, expired, or non-conforming materialsSafety & ComplianceUse required PPE, including safety footwear and high-visibility apparelFollow all OSHA, company, and site-specific safety policiesImmediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near-missesParticipate in required safety meetings, refresher training, and re-evaluationsAttendance & ReliabilityMaintain regular and predictable attendanceWork assigned schedules, including overtime, weekends, or holidays as requiredMarginal (Non-Essential) FunctionsAssist with inventory counts or auditsSupport production or warehouse teams during peak demandParticipate in continuous improvement or cross-training initiativesRequired QualificationsAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsAbility to comply with OSHA safety regulations and food safety standardsAbility to operate PITs safely after completing required trainingPreferred QualificationsHigh school diploma or GEDPrior experience operating forklifts or powered industrial trucks in a food or manufacturing environmentCurrent OSHA-compliant PIT certification or ability to obtain and maintain certificationFamiliarity with warehouse management systems (WMS)Physical Demands (ADA-Compliant)Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods (up to 8–12 hours per shift)Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodationAbility to safely operate PIT controls using hands and foot pedalsFrequent bending, reaching, and head/neck movement to maintain situational awarenessAbility to communicate effectively in a warehouse or production environmentWork EnvironmentFood processing and warehouse facilitiesExposure to moving equipment, forklift traffic, and dock operationsTemperature variations, including ambient, refrigerated, or frozen environmentsExposure to noise and food allergensPPE required, including gloves, safety footwear, high-visibility apparel, and protective clothingEqual Employment Opportunity (EEO) StatementSandridge Crafted Foods is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
