Cost Accountant

We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join an established industrial manufacturing organization in Middletown, CT. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining baseline cost systems, performing variance analysis, managing inventory valuations, and serving as a critical financial partner to our engineering, production, and procurement teams.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in discrete manufacturing operations and a hands-on approach to continuous process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Cost Management: Establish, maintain, and regularly update baseline costs, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and routing configurations for complex equipment assemblies and machinery.

• Variance & Performance Analysis: Track, analyze, and report on material, labor, and overhead variances. Investigate root causes behind cost deviations and partner with operations to recommend corrective actions.

• Inventory Control & Valuation: Monitor inventory accuracy, lead cycle count reconciliations, and evaluate lower-of-cost-or-net-realizable-value (NRV) reserve adjustments.

• Month-End Close: Execute month-end financial activities, including journal entry preparation, inventory sub-ledger to general ledger reconciliations, and running cost roll-ups.

• Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with plant operations, engineering, and purchasing departments to streamline production workflows, optimize cost structures, and reduce operational waste.
