Human Resources Generalist

Position Overview Oversees college-wide leave administration, facilitates benefit enrollments, and processes life‑event updates while ensuring effective communication with employees, campus partners, and third‑party administrators, ultimately contributing to the overall well‑being and satisfaction of Union College employees. Partners with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to investigate employee incidents, conduct root‑cause analyses, and collaborate on safety training initiatives. Supervisor Director of Benefits & Employee Engagement. Responsibilities Leave Administration Daily administration of leave management (Short‑Term Disability, Long‑Term Disability, Workers’ Compensation, Family and Medical Leave (FMLA), NYS Paid Family Leave, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and other leaves). Acts as subject‑matter expert on leave‑related laws, policies, and processes. Interprets and applies federal, state, and institutional regulations. Coordinates documentation, tracking, communication, and payroll management for third‑party administrators. Manages separation of employment related to long‑term disability transitions. Maintains accurate records in the leave tracking system and ensures compliance timelines. Provides consultation to department leaders regarding leave and accommodation matters. Handles sensitive personnel matters in compliance with HIPAA. Workers’ Compensation Support Leads and coordinates the College’s Workers’ Compensation program with EHS and the third‑party insurer. Submits incident reports and supporting documentation to the insurer. Collaborates with EHS on incident investigations and root‑cause analysis. Processes relevant work orders and maintains OSHA 300 log. Supports annual reporting compliance to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Ergonomic Accommodations Evaluates ergonomic assessments with EHS to identify risk factors. Proposes workplace solutions and collaborates with department leaders on procurement and implementation. Human Resources Administration and Support Supports HR operations and continuous improvement initiatives. Develops and updates employment and leave communications, materials, and forms. Supports employee engagement and benefit administration initiatives, open enrollment and HR events. Assists with recruitment efforts while ensuring compliance with hiring protocols. Qualifications Associate’s degree and a minimum of one to three years of general HR experience, preferably in higher education or related fields. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; proven ability to build rapport across a diverse campus community and deliver top‑tier customer service. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities with accuracy and efficiency. Proficiency interpreting and applying policies, regulations, and laws to make sound decisions. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; basic familiarity with Google Suite; experience with HR Information Systems (Workday preferred) and web‑page administration. Strong judgment, confidentiality, and professionalism across various situations. Compensation The annual salary range for this position is $62,000–$64,000.
