Job Description

The Finishing Technician plays a key role as the final step in the trailer manufacturing process, ensuring each trailer is fully assembled, detailed, and ready for shipment. You will receive trailers from the paint department and complete the installation of all remaining components, including wiring, hydraulic and air lines, brake systems, decals, and axle assemblies, using hand and power tools in a team-based production environment.

Responsibilities

• Receive painted trailer structures from the paint department and prepare them for final assembly.
• Install brake lines and wiring components using kit-based assembly lists, following clear, step-by-step instructions similar to assembling consumer products.
• Screw and secure axles onto the base of the trailer using appropriate hand and power tools.
• Install and route airlines, rubber hoses, and electrical wiring along the trailer frame as the finish installer.
• Install lights, stickers, decals, and reflectors on trailers according to specifications and placement guidelines.
• As the air brake technician or mechanic, remove and clean hubs, and replace slack adjusters, brake chambers, and brake shoes as required.
• Remove and install new bearings and bushings, including used hubs, following proper procedures.
• Torque bearings using correct torque procedures and ensure all fasteners and assemblies meet safety and quality standards.
• Use basic hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools to complete assembly tasks efficiently and safely.
• Follow written and verbal instructions accurately, including assembly lists and work orders.
• Maintain a clean and organized workstation, including sweeping and general housekeeping tasks.
• Work effectively as part of a two-person finish line team, coordinating tasks to meet production goals.
• Adhere to all safety guidelines and quality standards throughout the finishing process.

Essential Skills

• 1–2 years of consistent job tenure demonstrating reliability and commitment.
• Proficiency with basic hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and ratchets.
• Proficiency with power tools, including drills and impact tools.
• Ability to safely use pneumatic tools in a fabrication or assembly environment.
• Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds consistently throughout the shift.
• Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with assembly work.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and kit-based assembly lists.
• Comfort working in a fabrication or shop environment with team-based production.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with electrical wiring, including routing and basic connections, is a strong plus.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints or assembly drawings.
• Experience or knowledge of welding, particularly spot welding, is beneficial.
• Previous experience in trailer, automotive, or equipment assembly is an advantage.
• Familiarity with brake systems, hubs, bearings, and related mechanical components is helpful.

Work Environment

This role is based in a fabrication shop environment where trailers are assembled and finished for shipment. You will work primarily on the finish line in two-person teams, handling hands-on mechanical and assembly tasks. The facility supports a laid-back atmosphere where music is played and team members collaborate closely to meet production goals. The organization has more than 100 employees and operates a first-shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The work involves regular use of hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools, as well as frequent lifting of 50+ pounds and standing for most of the shift. The setting is typical of a shop or manufacturing floor, with an emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and teamwork.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bridgman, MI.

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
