Immediate opening for a Journeyman Mold Maker in Stevensville, MI who possesses:
- 4+ years of mold making experience, ideally with die cast dies and/or precision plastic injection molds
- Proven project lead ability, including managing multiple mold-build projects, staging steel, assigning work, and moving jobs through shop floor steps in sequence
- Solid judgment on tolerances, critical dimensions, final fit, and function in a hands-on shop floor environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read blueprints and part prints
FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a Journeyman Mold Maker to support mold build, repair, assembly, disassembly, project coordination, and shop floor workflow in a precision tooling and manufacturing environment. This permanent role is responsible for interpreting engineering drawings, coordinating multiple mold-build projects, staging materials, working with supervisors and department leaders, verifying final fit and function, and helping move work through CNC, drilling, heat treat, and other downstream steps. The ideal candidate will have mold making experience, strong mechanical aptitude, die cast die or precision plastic injection mold experience, strong blueprint reading ability, and the ability to lead projects through the shop floor while working hands-on in a team environment.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Building, repairing, assembling, and disassembling precision molds, tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges
- Interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and part prints
- Managing multiple mold-build projects from start to finish
- Coordinating 7 to 10 projects at a time as needed
- Staging steel and materials for upcoming project steps
- Coordinating with CNC, drill press, heat treat, and other departments to move work through the proper sequence
- Working with supervisors, managers, department leaders, and shop floor team members to support on-time delivery
- Supporting launch meetings and project planning discussions
- Verifying final fit, function, and quality of completed mold work
- Applying solid judgment to tolerances, critical dimensions, and workable conditions
- Measuring and inspecting completed work to ensure quality and tight tolerances
- Operating and understanding machine tools as needed
- Supporting CNC machine operation as needed
- Using CAD/CAM knowledge to support mold making and troubleshooting needs as applicable
- Developing strategies to meet project goals and objectives
- Troubleshooting mold, tooling, machining, fit, and quality issues
- Communicating project status, issues, and priorities with managers and department leaders
- Directing team members working on assigned projects to help meet customer needs
- Ensuring company standards, quality expectations, and safety guidelines are followed
- Recommending safety or process improvements where appropriate
- Working independently and as part of a team in a busy manufacturing environment
- Performing other duties as assigned
The selected candidate will also possess:
- 4+ years of mold making experience required
- Journeyman mold maker, tool and die, or equivalent hands-on mold making experience preferred
- Experience with die cast dies and/or precision plastic injection molds preferred
- Experience building and managing multiple projects from start to finish required
- Experience coordinating shop floor workflow across CNC, drill press, heat treat, and related departments preferred
- Ability to stage steel, assign work, and move projects through proper production sequence required
- Strong mechanical aptitude required
- Strong understanding of machining principles required
- Proficiency reading and interpreting blueprints and part prints required
- Ability to verify final fit and function required
- Strong judgment regarding tolerances, quality requirements, and critical dimensions required
- Quality-minded approach with strong attention to detail
- Good communication and leadership skills
- Problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to develop strategies to meet project goals and objectives
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to take direction and communicate effectively with managers, supervisors, and department leaders
- CAD/CAM software knowledge preferred
- Cimatron, WorkNC, PowerMill, or Mastercam experience preferred
- Conversational programming, M code, or G code knowledge preferred
- CNC machine operation experience preferred
- Programming knowledge is a plus but not required
- Ability to work in a clean, busy, family-oriented manufacturing environment
- Ability to work onsite in Stevensville, MI
- Ability to work 45 to 50 hours per week as needed
- Ability to work day shift hours, typically 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, or 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM when volume is lighter
- Ability to support a full-time, permanent opportunity

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, crouch, kneel, push, pull, lift, carry, and move throughout manufacturing, tooling, and shop floor areas as needed
- Ability to use hands and fingers for mold assembly, disassembly, inspection, measurement, tool use, machine operation, documentation, and standard manufacturing tasks
- Ability to work with molds, dies, tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, steel, machining equipment, and related manufacturing materials
- Ability to read and review blueprints, part prints, engineering drawings, project information, tooling details, and related documentation as needed
- Ability to use measuring and inspection tools to verify dimensions, fit, function, quality, and tolerances
- Ability to work around CNC machines, drill presses, tooling, materials, and manufacturing equipment while following all applicable safety procedures
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, transport, or move materials, parts, tools, and equipment as needed
- Ability to maintain accuracy, safety, and attention to detail in a manufacturing facility
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment as required in the manufacturing environment
